is it just me or is fruity loops a pain in the arse to program real sounding drums with. it seems like this program is centered around techno sounding drums only,i program out the first 4 measures and then i switch to the 2 set by clicking on the number 2 and program that as well but what i cant figure out is how the heck do you get them to playback in unison, im trying to get it to play 1 then 2 and it just plays 1 over and over. i tryed reading the directions that comes with the demo and they seem to be worthless and all the tutorials seem to be based on techno music you can make with this program.i realize you can download better soundfonts for it but what good will it do me if i cant figure the program out. is there any online tutorials that show you how to program drum beats and export them as wave file to use in cakewalk. also do you have to record your drums within fruity loops in order to play them back? im so sorry for such beginner questions but i am tottaly lost and any help would be so great. thanks much, one more thing do you guys add your effects wright in fruity loops to make the drums sound more real because i dont see how you can put the snare and the bass drum on seperate tracks in cakewalk so you can eq and add effects to them seperately. thanks tim pate. p.s im just a stupid guitarist that knows nothing about drums lol.

You need to use the playlist editor. This lets you play back whatever you want in whatever sequence you want. Also try using the maximum number of divisions (or whatever they call it) - 64, and try messing with the shift and volume parameters for each note. There's a lot in Fruity Loops to use, and until you get to a certain point, it seems like a pain, but once you figure out the basics, it's all good.

Then, after you're done with the playlist editor, toggle the "song" mode instead of "pattern" (it's somewhere near the tempo meter)

And yes, FL is a great software once you start playing with velocity and shift parameters, and capable of making really great drum tracks.

You can even put DirectX effects in every sound. Overall (and when used with soundfonts instead of samples) I think it's great.

Ok. Soooo, I got this FL Pro express 2.7 with CW- HS 2002. I’ve played with a bit (without getting arrest), and now I'm interested.

Which one of the three versions do I get if I'm mainly interested in just the drums? Do the drum sound good enough that I can fool mother nature or at least sound some what real? Is there something better out there? in the same price range?

thanks

As long as you use a good sounfont or excellent samples, you can do pretty realistic drums with FL. It's just a matter of toying with shift and velocity settings.

I don't know about all versions available, just avoid ordering the "boxed" version because you will miss the free upgrades.
