I'm building some multi-purpose (read: tweakable) scripts for mastering. They'll be (at least, they are now) multi-band compression/expansion scripts based on the manuals I've been reading up at the radio station. If you'd like it (or them, depending on how zealous I get), post a reply and I'll e-mail it to you.

Or write me @ kellyh@hiwaay.net

Dig it.

I'm interested. Is this like a directX plug in or a stand alone program?

It's more of a macro with which to master a final mixdown. It's basically compression at different frequencies (I'm using the "Prism II FM" ("Digitally Controlled Audio Processor--what isn't?) as a basis for this script).

You'd run it by going up to Options, then to Scripts and Batch processing. They're easy to make, but easier if someone else makes them! :)

I'm hoping also to see what "tweaks" and different frequencies everybody finds. Kindof a snowball project we'll have here at HomeRec.

Yes, please - I'm up for it. I've never used this sort of thing before, but I'd be very interested to see how it compares to my outboard compression at the mastering stage.

OK--Finished the first version of this mastering script. I'm judging from my PC system that there is a definite improvement, but I haven't run it on anything "clean."

I suggest saving your mixdown and then saving the mixdown after the mastering under a different name (i'm starting to just put "mastered" at the end of each filename).

I took WinAmp and put the two songs in sequence. Quite a difference! If any of you like what you hear out of "flat" studio monitors, let me know. I'm still relying on Altec Lansing 5.1s, and they're probably not very "flat" speakers.

If you want to try it out, post on this board and I'll e-mail it to you.

Oh.

Right now the mastering bands are:

Low 0-200 Hz
Mid 200-1000 Hz
Pres 1000-6000 Hz
High 6000-20,000 Hz

And compression for each is at 2:1 (i think).

Dig it.

Hey Kelly
I'd be interested in giving that a whirl. Thanks.

could you sign me up for that too kelly , much appreciated ....

I'm working on splitting up the bands at the moment. I'm thinking of splitting the band into multitrack; each band can be adjusted in realtime without having to access the EQ.

I'm definitely interested. Please email me at adelanoy@hotmail.com Thank you.

kikling and ILliterate:

I will send you the script as soon as I figure out how to "fix" it. It works, but only to compress each of four common mastering bands. You could probably get the same effect by just compressing the whole shebang.

I'm trying to reverse-engineer an audio processor from the radio station I work at. I didn't figure that it would be as hard as it is to adjust the levels between the bands. I think the parametric EQ function is the best way to deal with it afterwards, and then normalize it, but you've got to do this after a listen or two, and that doesn't work well with a script.

I'm thinking of giving up and buying that six-tool set that RBC offers. It has two mastering tools that look very useful (and user-friendly!). Also: auto tune, various compresssors, etc. All for $99.

I haven't given up quite yet, though. Look for it in your emails soon.

Did you ever get that script going? I would love to look at it. Please?

Okay. It should be in your email later today, for those who have emailed me or posted to this site.

It's still just a multi-band compressor with a normalizer at the end, though.

OK.

Any feedback? I got one sayin' it just wouldn't run. Anyone else?

Thanks,

-K.
Kelly
