Well... I put together this pretty simple acoustic guitar track and melody.

I hope ya's dig :)

your "Hendrix ploy" sucked me right in...... turkey lips!!

nice tune...doesn't sound like Hendrix.....kermit w/banjo......or like slop either.... very well done. I liked how the synth started to come in....around 1:00 or so... would be neat to keep it coming (the synth...and build it up)...but I suppose many will disagree too. The synth stuff at 2:00 was very pretty...along with the pno sounds too. Sounds like a big breath at 2:21 !!!

My only "nit-pick" is where the two guitars would hit a unision note...and it kinda stuck out there [for me]. Otherwise...incredible guitar music. You are improving by leaps and bounds. Wish I could too!!

holy crap...this is awesome. Some really sweet writing, is it a cover or original? Nice playing and I liked the fade out at the end.

I've always been hip on your acoustic/flamenco stuff... this is no exception...

nice.

WATYF

(what the heckle is wrong with this site??? I just got back and I can barely pull up a single page.)

Very nice song! I like it alot, great recording also.

Hey Jeff,
........very nice playin man! .....now for a few questions:) I think you mentioned in another one of your posts that you run your guitar mics through the triton.... Is that so here? Im assuming that you do that to use the boards fx. Also, is the piano sound at the end of this a stock sound on the board? ....or is that off of one of the expansions. ........sorry for all of the q's man. Christmas is coming:D :D :D :) :) :)

Beautiful stuff as usual man

big 5

yeah, great stuff as usual.

i really dig the lack of synth on this one. you really kept it back where it belongs imo. very much just to lay a pad for the outstanding guitar work. it's slowly disappearing into the distance where it belongs. keep that sweet guitar out front and center.

your lead lines are coming through more and more clear with each post as well. i'm not sure if that's a sign of more confidence in general but it seems as if you have a slight tendency to hold back and lay low in the texture of it everyonce in a while and that's less frequent here.

you're one guy that i like to hear show it off. give us what you got man! it's all very nice.

thanks.

Excellent guitar playing as usual jeff.Pretty melody throughout and the piano licks are very tasteful. You WILL be on a label someday if you continue to work as hard as you have been lately. Not blowing smoke up your ass,but you there is a place for you in the instrumental music arena...just keep working at it man....record labels drool over musicians with talent and the dedication to their craft that it takes to get to the next level.

Loved it.

p.s. are the guitars mic'ed or direct?Both?

Where's the Jimi lessons?.....

......Cheater!....Just for that I'm not gonna tell you what I think...

Ok....you talked me into it. :D
Very, very fine man. Excellent sound and balance. Really good.
( listens to it again)
That's nice......:)

An excellent piece and great playing.

Mix

I knew the Hendrix line would get you in here ;)
Thats funny.. I was contemplating about running the synth past 1:00... It started too sound a little too "dancy" when it was on for awhile. Also, I have to realign the arp tempo because I recorded this without a click track. It gives it a more intimate sound. Its weird some of the piano patches on my board are in stereo and some of them are mono sounding. I must of got lucky and picked a stereo piano sound because you like it :) cool! Im still recording with these headphones, so I cant really tell stereo from mono... cuz of my deaf left ear  I know thats not professional, but what can I do.
I'll go back and look for the ugly unison notes and fix them... maybe it just needs a little better separation? Thanks again for stopping in to say hi!

Doug H

Hey doug... thanks alot for the cool words! This is a cover by a guy named Jeff Marcomb... ;) ... Hey! ... thats me! Yeah.. I went into a little folk finger picking at the end there... Im glad ya liked and take it easy!

WatYF

Thanks for stopping by again, man. As to the site problems ... possibly the site owner is dedicating some of this sites bandwidth to something else? not sure. Times are kinda tough right now it the IT dept, so I guess you have to be thankful for what you have :) Hey.. that reminds me .... HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Nik D

Hi Nik.. Im glad you liked and thanks for giving me your input. means alot! Thanks

G

Hey! its almost time to get your board! Id be soo excited if I were you :) I think I wet my pants when i got mine  Im using the boards effects for this song. Because im using two mics... you get a more detailed sound of the acoustic guitar. Those mics are getting routed into my boards hard left and right. The best sounding reverb on the keyboard for acoustic guitar is the smooth hall reverb. I use it with about 2.5 sec @ 11% wet. Im also using a multitap delay in the master effects section and giving the overall sound a 2 db boost on the highs with the 3 band EQ. When you set up for using sounds with the keyboard you will want to be in Program Mode.. Not sampling mode... I made that mistake for about 3 months  so you can save your setting and recall them. And your also able to use the routing capabilies of the Master FX section.. which is nice. When ever you get spare time you'll want to read up in the getting started Triton users manual... then you can brush up on the technicle aspects of the keyboard in the 305 page Parameter guide ... you do have to be a rocket scientist to understand it but little by little it will come together. I dont have any expansion cards on my board.. yet.. but Im sure that will change soon :) Christmas is coming ;) Take care!

erichenryus

Hows it going E? Hehe.. thats funny.. yeah the syth pads are slowly disappearing... who knows they might mysteriously reappear :) Your right.. it does show a higher confidence level when you can make the guitars cut through the mix...It also helps when you get closer to the mics :) :P It really depends on the intended mood of the song .. I guess... cuz you can have some smooth ambient stuff with everything going on :) I chose to sing with the guitar on this one... I'll let loose and show off some day :) Maybe I'll throw Eddie Van Halens Eruption up here for the hell of it :) Nah... showing off is when im at the beach... Hahaha... ok id better goto sleep now.. getting delerious .. 13hrs of playing and listening.. i might be addicted! :) Thanks again!

Kramer

Wow... encouraging post Kramer. Thats super cool to say all that... I work very hard at whatever I do and Ive learned that good things come with hard work and dedication. I will work at it everyday for the love... that means i was destined to play music. anything else feels unnatural
thanks!
the guitar are mic'd x/y style. ~8 inches away 90 degrees from each other ~12th fret. Its really helps to point the heads down and the neck mic head over the soundhole mic head to eliminate the breathing a little, cuz my mics are extremely sensitive. I also have to put a blanket over my computer... and you can still hear the cat purring from two closed doors away!

Lt Bob

haha... oh yeah.. the jimi lessons. Well... he really never went out of playing the pentatonic scale... so if your into blues than your into Jimi! His style is very simple, but there is also a hidden force in there. Its the same kinda feeling that Stevie Ray and a few others had... I think its a passion that lies in the unseen. If you could see it .. it would look like fire! ok... this isnt a phylosophy class :) Next session Jimi will chime in to let you know how to use lighter fluid effectively :)

Thanks for listening Lt.!

Hey Jeff,

......very informative reply man. Thanks alot for that.

g:) ...you da man!

Jeff

Sounds pretty damn good from this side of the Atlantic as well!

Beautifully written, played and recorded (and aptly titled). Would make a haunting theme tune for a film (sorry, movie). It's playing for the third time as I write; for some reason in my head I can see people moving in trains, or cars, in the driving rain, at night.

For what it's worth, I didn't think the synth's added anything, and the counterpoints towards the end confused what was already a lovely harmonic structure from the guitar parts. But that's only a matter of taste.

Wonderful

from now on, refer to Jeff as "The Talent"

Can only imagine the hours & hours it took to get as good as you are at that guitar, Jeff. Absolutely incredible. And you just HEAR these melodies in your head? Or, do they just magically come out of your fingers? :)

People would pay money for a disc of this... people SHOULD be paying money for a disc of this... any plans to set up a nice demo, and "sell out" like a good, career minded musician? :p

Hopefully you can find a way to get this stuff to the masses that wouldn't require you to sign over your soul to the Warner's, Sony's, and BMG's of the world.

Out of everyone on this site, you're the first one I think of when hearing the word "musician". Stay as long as you can on this board, man :)

Garry Sharp

Hi Garry. Thanks for stretching your ears across the Atlantic :) I agree about my music being really good film music. As long as somebody uses it... im happy :) I tried to break up the monotony of the song by changing the key towards the end there... I tried to stay with the daydreaming theme.
:) I just received a Moog Soccer Shirt today that I ordered from the UK. Very cool shirt I love it! You guys have great stuff over there.
Thanks!

yep.. music aside. Ive got to say your a great hearted person. you treat everybody on this board with great respect and what comes around goes around... so hang on to that great attitude!

as far as the melodies... I guess its a combination of the two things you mentioned. When you sit down and start writing the guitar/keyboard or whatever ..if you really align yourself with what your doing you become tranced to it... like meditation or something. you take a virtual mental journey. I guess thats how I really come up with ideas. :) ... Oh.. also, as weird as it sounds I keep cologne on my desk to smell... helps too :)

Yes! I will definitley have a cd out with 10 songs on it in about 2-3 weeks. I guess the big companies are appealing from a marketing aspect, but I have other options im looking into, also. I know somebody that has a label and plays close to the same style as me and has many years of experience when he signed his soul to Columbia. hes become wiser and started his own indie company. So, I will be talking to him as soon as Im done. Being 26 yrs old ... I think its the right time to go full throttle with this. The future is looking bright!
this is a sample of the last song im working on for the album.. its called titled last song
