Free Guitar playing VSTi's?

Hi everyone, I want to start writing more songs for my band. I am a bass player and my guitar playing is very limited compared to that of the guitarists in my band. I want to write some songs with lyrics chords etc. I want to be able to have interesting chord choices even if i cant actually play said chords. I know there are a lot of things like this for non drummers such as EZdrummer. Are there any VST instruments that do this for guitar, also they need to run on mac and I would prefer freeware if possible as these demos wouldnt be going anywhere besides to my band mates.

What's your theory like? May be easier to work on a keyboard format, for which VSTis abound....

my theory is good but i dont know all the chord shapes on guitar. I got the program spicy guitar to work on my computer (Logic wouldn't detect it in the past) I am now having a blast writing chords drums and lyrics on the computer while writing bass lines fo real!
