Some of the reviews and posts on the Marxhall mxl1000 and 603 said they were the same, only 1000 was ball style, and removing the ball would make it the same as the 603. According to marshall website, The 1000 is cardioid, the 603 is "sub cardioid" and has a wider dynamic range than the 1000.
Just wanted to note this.

...actually, he said it was "identical in sound".......

Yeah he did, my bad for the disinformation. The same in sound...

The brochure is wrong. They're both "wide cardioid" patterns. The 1000 capsule and electronics are the 603, and I wouldn't hesitate in using a 1000 and 603 as a "matched pair" in a pinch. The body of the 1000 will add a little ghosting because it's bigger, but the sound was more than "close enough for rock and roll".

Hey Harvey what do U mean by "ghosting". The term ghosting I'm used to using is when your sending a bad television signal and things start looking like there they are in doubles on the recievin end(not the best explination). How's "ghosting" used in an audio sense?????

I'm using it in a similar manner. I meant there is a slight reflection off the open housing of the mic which causes a little reflection, just as multipath reflections cause ghosts in TV reception. It's not a big deal in this case, but it would probably show up as a slight blip on the graph when compared to a 603.
