I picked up a copy of the "Dummies Guide to Home Recording" today, and although I've only read a few pages over lunch, it's already proved a valuable resource. Nice to find a resource that's not aligned with any particular manufacturer.

Whew...I'm glad someone else had the guts to say that because I have a copy myself..:)...actually the "Dummies" guides are loaded full of information on just about everything. I also haven't read the whole thing but from what I've read..it's GREAT!!

I'm hoping it will add to a basic understanding of what I've learned here so far...that way when I ask questions, I don't seem like a total idiot...just a partial idiot...hehe...

Anyway...I'll stand and be counted as a Home Recording "Dummy"!! Just hopefully not for long...

God Bless!

Books are great for finding out what mistakes you should try to make - I hadn't seen the Dummies book on recording, but figured it was only a matter of time. Just remember, nobody ever learned to ride a bike (very well) by JUST reading a book, they learned by finding out what hurt the worst and not doing that again... Steve

Book - learnin'

I think what I'm enjoying about this book is the author' insistance that you not rush out and blow big $$ on equipment you don't know how to use. Very "back to basics" approach to the new technology.

He does get into detail (explains sampling rates, bandwidth etc), but also deals in generalities like "typical studio lay-outs" and he uses anaologies to explain how compressors and gates work.

I give it 2 thumbs up...

Have to agree with you Jmorrison...

I also give it two thumbs up!!

God Bless!
