Hey all first post,

I've got a fostex X-15 cassette 4 track that i was given a while back as it wasnt working right.

I've got the the deck running and everything and it records perfectly (i could play the tape back clear in my other cassette deck) but when i play any tape through the Fostex its really noisey and hissy

anybody any idea of how to sort this out?

Thanks
Jason

Are you playing back tapes that were recorded on another deck? If so that might be the problem. How are the tapes that you record on the Fostex itself playing back?

sorry maybe i worded it wrong.

when i playback any tape in the Fostex it sounds horrible, staticy, buzz and hiss

when i record through the fostex it still sounds horrible on that machine but when i put the tape that was recorded in the fostex into my tascam it sounds clear.

I've recently sold my tascam 424 so this has never bothered me before but would be nice to get it sorted

Thanks

hmnn, I'm really not sure. I wonder if it's the switches. Maybe try opening it up and cleaning the contacts on those "mix" switches, and the other switch contacts. Just a guess. Otherwise I'm not sure. If you try this get some de-oxit spray to clean them.

Strange. I used to have one of those a while back. The headphone jacks were garbage and one of them produced not much more than the noises you describe.

If it records ok and you can play tapes recorded on it through another deck and it sounds fine, then the problem would seem to be on the monitoring end of things. Are you monitoring the fostex through speakers or via a headphone jack?

I have one too. It's about 20 years old now, but only one of the main ( L or R) outs are working. But I think it's just a pinched wired from taking it apart so many times to fix another problem I had.
