Fostex VF80 V Korg D1200 Mk 2

Any thoughts?

I was just about to go for the fostex before a local dealer suggested the Korg for the same price with 12 tracks opposed to 8 (CD burner included) Not sure now and i don't know alot about 'Korg'. Has their gear got any sort of reputation good or bad? Anyone used the D1200 mk 2?

If you can get a new Korg D1200mkII with a built-in CDR for the same price as a Fostex VF80CDR, then I'd do it. ($599.00 as opposed to $999.00)

Korg products are very nice, and there's a whole Korg support site, (KorgStudios, I think).

I've been checking through old posts and feedback seems quite positive. I'm in the uk and the price gap between the VF80 over there is about £200, where as the gap on the Korg is minimal. Don't know why but i'm veering towards the Korg.

With the Korg you can input 4 at once, plus you can do 24bit, and I think people are favourable toward their effects.

Mind you, I think the VF80 is a great machine -- very stable, very capable of great recordings. But Korg has a solid reputation as well. I have their microKorg and the EA1 -- nice, well made gear.

Actually, at $999.00 the D1200 is overpriced here. The Fostex VF160 (16 individual tracks, 8 at once) is $899.00.

Anyway, I think from what I've read, not on personal experience, the D1200 should do nicely. Make sure you check out korgstudios.com
