I might buy one for $250. Is this a good, easy way to build a small home/project studio?

I already have an outboard analoge/digital CD burner so I don't need the more expensive VF160EX (cd burner included) and I already have decent outboard gear. I'm switching from an old 8 track analoge TEAC to the digital domain.
Does anybody already own the VF160? Pro's &/or cons?

Thanks

Well, I have the VF160ex and not much difference between the vf160 (according to the sales guy). They had both in stock. Of course the ex comes with the burner and a bigger hard drive. But both have the same functions and features. Price wise, I paid 799us about a year and half ago.

So if the burner and big hard drive is not a concern, I'd say that price is excellent. You can still record 16 tracks simomtanously with the opt. adat.

I've got a VF160. It works fine for what I do. Mine has a CD burner. The only differences between a VF160 and a VF160EX are the color and the EX doesn't have the SCSI port.
Apparently, older VF160 machines didn't have CD burners and larger hard drives, both of which were standard when I bought mine(April 2004).
Mine came loaded with the 2.0 Version firmware. It also came with two addendum manuals and some stickers to put on for the new functions that the 2.0 upgrade offered.
The only CON I can think of is that the Low EQ is a 400Hz shelf. No frequency or bandwidth adjustments, just db boost or cut.

Definately get it if its in good condition. I use mine for all my drum tracking and I love it. The only thing is I wouldnt try to use it for eqing or editing. I got my vf160 in like 2002 and it came with a cd burner.
