I just bought the Fostex VF160 today from a local music store. I was told it was new and was only used a couple of times at the store to record demos and show others how it worked. I get it all setup to lay down some tracks and power it up and it seems to be coming on fine and initializing. Finally, it seems to be done and yet NONE of the buttons do anything. Only the stop button is lighted yellow. No other buttons work. I hit the setup button hoping to go in the setup mode... nothing. I try ALL buttons and nothing happens. I then try SHIFT+all buttons and nothing happens. I believe it is in a mode that you must exit out or it is in a somehow locked mode.

At the top of the screen, it just says ABS = 00M00S and that is all. Any help from an experienced user would be greatly appreciated.

As I indicated in an email, I know of nothing that accounts for this that can be easily reset. But maybe there is... If it was a demo model, you never know what someone might have done while it was on display (for instance, started a disk format that got interrupted).

Unless someone knows of a very simple explanation, I'd take it right back. If you don't mind saying, how much did you pay? Definitely new ones can be had for $799.00.

I did do some research before I bought the unit. They had it for $899, I told them I could get a new EX unit for $799 with a larger hard drive, so he knocked off another $50 and let me have it for $749. Looks like I better get my money back and buy one of the EX units...

THANKS

Yes! You could go with Musician's Friend or 8th Street Music, or Zzounds. Get a sealed, new unit in any event.

I was going to try that, but NONE of the buttons work, so I cannot even get into the setup mode. The system just seems to be totally frozen.

Download the latest firmware and try to upgrade it.
Go to VF16.com and download V2.03 and the doc file will tell you how to make a CD from your PC.
