hi,
i have a fostex R8
a guy make me a price for a soundcraft studio 16/8/2 + a tascam msr 16 : 800$ for both
i don't know if i really need the tascam ... but sounds like a good price
i just need 8 tracks to record my band ... but we never know !
tascam is 1/2 , which tapes are much more expensive ...
what about the sound, i'm recording roots/lo-fi blues, which one is the best ?
do you think i should save my money and buy something else ?
bye the way, what do you think about the soundcraft spirit studio 16/8/2 ?
thanx for the help !!

The Soundcraft is a good basic 8 buss console..........I've been using a 24 channel version for a number of years. They have most necessary features required to fit into a recording set up, their preamps and EQ sections are better than other consoles of that style. Just make sure that the power supply is included.

I've never owned a Fostex machine, but I did own a 388, which is a 1/4" 8 track recorder at 7.5 ips. The MSR-16 can run at 15 or 7.5 ips.

I really like my MSR's. I think they sound really amazing, and having 16 tracks has always made things easier for me. Further, I've even bounced tracks and wasn't able to discern any loss in quality.

$800 for a Soundcraft board and an MSR (assuming both are in good, working condition) is a steal.

Go for it. If you don't want the 16 you can always sell it locally.
