Fostex Multitracker Recorders

How do I get my stupid X-28H to record. I have my instrument connected in the #1 slot on input A and my monitor set through AUX but when I press record the tape won't move and when I press record and play the tape moves but nothing is recorded when I play the instrument.

You might refer to your manual; usually the "get started" section of most manuals will get you recording quickly. I'm not familiar with your Fostex; however, I'm guessing it's not much different than any tape based unit. DID YOU ENGAGE THE TRACK SO IT IS IN THE RECORD MODE?

Almost every tape unit I've used or looked at has a button to push or pull to engage the track or tracks you wish to record upon.

If your manual fails you, get Fostex on the Web. They are there and should answer your problem.

I don't know anything about your particular machine, but the fact that it will play but not move in the record makes me think you may have a tape with the erase tab removed which keeps folks from accidently erasing a tape. check your cassette on the side oppossite the tape path and see if either of the two little tabs have been removed. If so, cove with scotch tape.
