how do i get good sound with this?

I think you should start by being more specific: are you recording music? what genre? what instruments? will you be using micropohones? will there be vocals? where will you be recording?

It's easy to get a good recording with one of those.
a) read the manual
b) go to the analog only forum for the in depth
c) be specific about what you want, are doing, need to do, have to use.
d) be nice to your mother
