Fostex FR 2LE - won't turn on

I tried to turn on my Fostex FR 2LE field recorder using charged batteries and the AC adaptor but no go.

Any idea why this happening?

I have had this unit for a while and have had no problems in the past - it hasn't been dropped or misused.
