Hey ya'll,

I've got some Led's that are out on my b16. Two channels are totally out and a few channels come and go. I've seen that this is a common problem but never have seen a solution for fixing this. Has anyone ever come up with a way to fix these things? I did pull the ones that don't work out of the machine to see if there was something I could do but didn't have much luck. The actual led's are so small you can barely see 'em.

That being said, does anyone have an old machine they may want to part out? I've been watching ebay and craigslist for another machine I could use for parts but just haven't seen any I'd want to purchase for the asking prices.

Thanks

I stumbled across a thread either at Geaslutz or GroupDIY about this. No definitive answer, but someone apparenlty did come up with a fix. I'l guessing the modules are the same as on a model 80 or R8, so search for those as well (I could be wrong there) but I think the thread was about the R8. I may have printed it out to a pdf, I'll search my arvhice and get back. I have a couple of Fostex 80's they seem to have working LEDs but I'm concerned for the inevitable. It is so common a fault that somebody somewhere must have a workaround or fix.

What is your price range for a parts deck? There is one for sale around here on CL, with the detachable meter bridge. Perhaps you can get a "new" machine, and save yours as hte parts deck? I'm just thinking outloud here....

Thanks for the reply!!!! I'll start looking at the 80 and r8 models.

As far as price range, I don't really have a set amount. On ebay I just think they start off asking a little too much. For example, there is one on ebay now with a buy it now of $1600 and shipping for $158. I paid $300 for mine and it came with a teac 32-2b. I also found some brand new heads for it (really!!) and spent a considerable amount of time installing and aligning. But, I'm not against using it as the parts deck if I find one for a reasonable price in even better condition.

I searched the classified listing for a while and couldn't find the one for sale. I'll look some more. Thanks again for the reply.

They're similar to Kingbright LED bar arrays which come in rows of 12 or so LED's of different colours. I have had the LED channels PCB out for inspection on mine & I don't think you could have much luck replacing the individual LED's themselves. They just randomly go one at a time I have 5 down across all channels at present.

The LED''s are enclosed & glued in a plastic strip so fixing one at a time would take too much time, better to just fit a new LED Bar array instead!

I was considering trying out one of these LED bar graphs I'm assuming that this is similar from what I remember but you will need to check exact specifications & dimensions?

I just recently bought a B16 that came with a donor machine, and of course I'm having the LED problems....I know this thread is three years old, but has anybody found a solution?! The Gearslutz thread that links here does end with a solution, but it looks VERY labor intensive and difficult, basically soldering on new tiny led's on every bulb...192 of them on a B16. Please tell me there's another solution besides that or poaching from a parts machine (my donor only has one or two channels of working led's). Thank you!

Well I don't know...LEDs typically last a long, long time. If an LED isn't working I don't usually assume the part is dead...usually I assume there is a bad connection or a bad component in the LED driver circuit. I assume there are individual plug-in amplifier cards in the B16? And if you swap an amp card of a channel that has working LEDs with one that does not, does the problem follow the card swap (does the problem migrate), or do the live and dead LEDs stay put? Can you be more specific about what LEDs we're talking about? Like can you put up a pic or two of what isn't working? I'm not all that familiar with the Fostex machines.
