Hello all,
Just a question I have a chance to get a Fostex 812 mixer for cheap.
Its a 8 in model with 8 subgroups.

Its older but in good shape is it worth buying?

Thanks for any info.

HAHA! Just bought it! Do you think $25 was too much?

O god I think I'm becoming more like "A Reel person".

-Blaze

$25? I hate you.

Nah, just kidding! I'm proud of you! ;)

That's like Herm's Fostex 260, mint/in-hardcase, for $25. I hated him too,...

Naaaaaaaaaaah!

;)

Now I'm just trying to figure out what I'm gonna do with this thing......

hey REEL! You seen the KORG D888 digital recorder yet?
Remember our discussion about the routing and such on digital recorders?

Well korg did a smart thing finaly, they made a 8 track digital hard disk recorder with a 8in-8out mixer with true track strips for each chanel its pretty slick.

ANyway!

Later!

It's little surprise that someone was listening to our gear gripes/wish lists,...

and it wasn't Tascam!!! ;)

PS:The Korg D888 sounds interesting. Gear designs may be heading in the right direction, y'never know. I'll check it out. Thanx for the tip! ;)

Ah, so!

That's a big step in the right direction, complete with OL LEDs!........ ;)
The Korg D888 is something the Tascam DP-01 & 788 are not, & that is sensible.

I dig the 888 I'm trying to get my bass player to buy one so I can use it! :p

Finaly a good thought, aye? Aye?

-Blaze

Digital's never looked so...

analog!........;)

Good point GOOD POINT!

I wish more folks would get with it and realise that not everyone is into the pre-routed digital relm. Some of us like to patch and record more than two tracks at a time. HMMM? HAHA!

Hey Reel!
I have question for ya!

How would you use this thing? I am thinking of using the 812 for "Strapping" analog gear across digital signals.
or integrating this into a computer setup or mixing 8 chanels through analog gear or what have ya........

It was to good of a deal not to buy so! I'm not sure what to do with it.

Hey I just hit 200 posts! 50 more and I get my own personal ico er whatever!

YEAH BASEBALL!

Sorry

-Blaze

Eh,... that's a pretty wide open question, isn't it?

First, I think we were talking about the 788, and how the 788 kinda begged for an outboard 4-buss front end mixer. The 812 gives you 4 busses to front the 788, plus leftover busses for effex, monitor, and who knows what else.

I don't record on the 'puter, but the 812 could be a pretty primo front end to something like the Delta 1010, or any other soundcard interface that does 8-in/8-out I/O.

There's always a need for a PA mixer, once in a while, especially if you have other independent means of recording and mixing.

I like those ideas pretty well. ;)

I've got it! You could buy a Fostex MR-8HD and use the 812 mixer as a front end. That's a Fostex/Fostex solution on par with the 812/788 idea, above.;)

I almost forgot the obvious answer! Get a Fostex Model 80 or R8 reel/reel. ;)

Hmm Food for thought Reel!
Thanks!

I'm on the trail of a Alesis Midiverb III and a Behringer Tube Composser.
I got friends who sell gear more than I do! :D
Hoping to land the Composser for $60 and the Verb for $30.

I love a deal!

Thanks again

-Blaze

They're some cool deals, alright.

You'll end up just like me, if you're not careful.;)

What A thought!

Reel, your one of the only ones on this board I wanna be like. HAHA!
Scary huh?
