I've just met a guy that has made me hate the sound of foam.
I have pulled every piece of foam out of my room and will be now be using his stuff exclusively!
The one thing I didn't think I could have as a home studio vs. the big boys was a great sounding room (something beyond just slapping on a nice reverb).
His name is Michael Green and he comes from an Audiophile background / has some really interesting ways of looking at / treating sound in a room (I.E. things of brass spikes etc.).
I've bought one of his "Tuning Boards" for my guitar amp and now it just sings (even plays louder). It's weird, but all the notes seem balanced and I find I'm not using compression any more.
I've seen a sound stage and a couple of vocal rooms he has designed and they're just amazing.
If you've got the recording setup, mics and players then your room is the next step.
Check the guy out!
