I've been doing some research on sound cards and whatnot... I'm trying to get some true multitracking action going on. So here's what I have.

Behringer Eurorack 2442FX-PRO (8 direct outs)

1.4 gig amd
384 megs ram
180 gigs HD
usb 2.0
firewire
(running cool edit pro 2.0)

what would be the best sound card for under 300 bucks to be able to run the mixer into? i'd really like one that will work with cep 2.0 if possible, as i don't like the idea of learning or buying any new software. 8 inputs ideally...

any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :D

you will get a ton of different cards listed here.....all i can do is tell you what i have...I love my Terratec EWS/88MT. 10 ins, 10 outs (8 analog, 1 midi, 1 digital). The newest version of my card is the terratec phase 88 and it is $299.

Does the phase 88 use rca jacks on the inputs? Cause the mixer has 1/4" direct outs.. I'm guessing that 1/4" to 1/4" would be better than having to use some sort of adapter? Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm kinda retarded. Thanks!

ye gotta be careful when considering a soundcard for cool edit 2 to be sure the drivers will work for you. I could very well be wrong, but i remember someting about cool edit not being able to use ASIO drivers for multitracking. If this is true, then an E-MU type card would be a waste of money.

I use a Terratec EWS88D, similar to what thajeremy uses, but set up for ADAT lightpipe instead of having an analog breakout box. The drivers are no problem: it has ASIO (and it's true, CEP -- and that includes the current version of Adobe Audition -- doesn't support ASIO), WDM and MM drivers. Mine works fine with the MM, and I have 8 I/O simultaneously. I got the card for $150US.

I'm a little curious: why does buying a sound card require the love of God? Just wondering.

yes..it does use RCA inputs but you can either buy adapters or i just picked up an 8 channel snake that has 1/4 TS on one side and RCA on the other. Radio Shack also has single cables with the same configuration for like $4 each. my snake was only $10 i think. Ebay special...2 for only $10....yes yes yes...they are HOSA.

Umm the E-mu 0404 comes with WDM. I'm not sure about the other E-mu cards but, I'm sure they do as well.

I never said they weren't there, I sai the card would be a waste of money, implying that ASIO are the only decent drivers available for them. I'm only speculating based on what i have read, i don't have a lot of experience with them. Maybe they solved the issue since. Anybody else feel free to chime in if i am mistaken (brazilian?? :) )

My bad...minofifa

Thanks for the replies.

So I need something with WDM drivers? Cool. How do you balance the signal from the 1/4" outputs? Like I said.. Im retarded. By the way, the post topic was just a crack at my frustration after all the reading I've been doing that's done me next to no good. lol

outputs from what?

hey lpdeluxe, which part of east texas are you from? im in longview/kilgore

You would just be sending a mono signal a few feet (the distance from the mixer to the soundcard). Just use a TS 1/4 to an RCA. If you want a stereo track for some reason, record channels 1 and 2 from the mixer to track 1/2 on the breakout box as a stereo channel. You can record as 8 seperate channels or 4 stereo channels (1/2, 3/4, 5/6, 7/8).

Nacogdoches.
