Suck 'em and see!
these guys were in mid week, wednesday & thursday...3 songs. First time I've tracked and known exactly what I wanted the mix to sound like from the start. The band are called Decoda, one of 3 songs here called Come to harm. I think it sounds good after listening on a few different sound systems and I'm happy to burn this out as is but I'd be very greatfull on your views as to how it sounds.

Thanks in advance

Dang it sounds really nice and open. What did you use?

are these live drums?

T

yeah drums are live recorded in the garage. 57 on the snare, RE 20 on the kick ans 2 SP B1s for the overheads. Guitars went through a pod then I reamped back through a V-Amp pro to put some twist on it. Bass was a marshal head and a 4x10 trace eliot mic'd with another RE20 and DI'd with a contreyman into a tampa pre. The vocals went through a sm58 druing tracking (which I kept) then redone with the SP B1 with the backing squashed and pulled up behind.

Find any holes in it?

Drums sound as good as it gets :) Very nice work on those.

Guitars, very, VERY nice for a pod :) I wouldn't have guessed that.

I'd turn the vocals up a little bit more, but that's just my thing. It's good as it is.

Bass, maybe just a little louder aswell, but again, taste.

Very nice mix overall dude :) And origional song aswell.

I think you've done a nice job. Personally, I think the guitars are too quiet during the chorus...it leaves a slight hole in the midrange of the mix. But they may be exactly where you want them.

This is an excellent tune, well performed--but the mix is a little muted...probably due to Chris' above mentioned lack of mids. There's none of the bite I want to hear.

thanks for the replys guys, nothing major jumping out over a few sets of ears is exactky what I was hoping for. he band is happy and I am too with this so I doubt I'll change anythig at this point.

Halion, it's just the regular kidney bean pod, the kid had his own settings diald in. I retracked through the V-Amp pro and pulled that up behind the original tracks he layed down. Have to say I'm really happy with the sound.

You guys are great, keep it coming

not sure if it's your monitors or the mp3 conversion. I went 128 on this cause I'm running out of space at NowhereRadion.com

Might be the 128...I had the same problem w/ one of my conversions...high end disappeared.

Yeah, conversion is dodgy. Can notice it with the hats and the guitars. Nice song, but sorry to say it aint an original. NIN have a song off the album with left and right CDs that sounds really similar at the chorus.
Overall mixing technical aspects are good in my ears, but im just a novice.

similar chorus? FFS! they musta stolen it! lol

This is really good. Song is cool. Singer is real good but he just seems to be burried a bit. I'd bring him out.

Drums, bass, and guitars sound nice. You must have a pretty good room.

Cymbals seem a bit harsh though, but that could be my computer speakers.

All in all, very nice.

Really, really good, i think. I think most of the issues have more to do with conversion to .mp3.

Cool stuff, great mix to my ears.

Hey this is great.

The singer is pretty dang sweet, and so are the guitars and drums, and, well, just about everything else. I was about to take back my v-amp 2 until I heard this - it rocks. I just need to tweek it a bit more I guess.

This is also just a great song and a great sound. You nailed it in my opinion.

sounds damn good. like, really. lol. two things are really sticking out to me, though. the first, is that I really think you should boost the guitars and vocals a bit. The guitars more so than the vocals. And I'm assuming you didnt close mic the toms? If you did, I would boost in the 3-5 k region to bring some presence to them. Also, put a little reverb on the toms to bring some depth. Not enough to say "wow you put reverb on the toms", but just enough to bring the decay out a bit. You've got a really good recording here though. Nice work

LemonTree you record via computer correct? What card was this done on? Did I read that your using a 1010?

yeah one 1010 and two 410s, but I never record through the 410s I just have them to pull 24 tracks back to the desk on mixdown.

Lemon,
Really nice job.... It sounds real good through my system, and the music's good too!!

BTW- I spent some time in Edinburgh last year, and I gotta say, nice country you've got there... Haggis rocks too!!! and balck pudding.... and oh, yeah, BEER!!!! :D :D

Yeh the drums sound great and the singer is good.

No advice on the mix, it sounds pretty here. The song rocks
