Ok, so I got this thing...

Sounds great, love the condenser going in, great sound...

Now...

How do you get a stereo freakin signal to record?!?! All I get is one side, or I have to record mono tracks... this cannot be...can it?!?!?

If you are only using one microphone, it is a mono signal and should be recorded on a mono track.

It IS like that,I own one also and went through the same thing..I almost want to say the ONLY stereo recording you can do on a single input would be using the spdif..Does that seem to make sense?Ahhhhh,O.K. after thinking for a few more secs a lightbulb went off..It really all depends on what you want to record..Say if it's a stereo output, like out of a reciever or headphone jack, you'll need a stereo instrument cable then you can record a stereo track using analog input #1....I think THAT may answer your question, let us know...And YES what Strryder said previously applies also...

All of the inputs on the Firepod are mono (except for the digital input which supports a stereo track).

Using a stereo cable with a stereo feed into input 1 of the firepod is going to yield a mono track of the left channel.

In order to record an analog track in stereo you will need to use 2 inputs of the firepod. If you notice the line ins on the back of the unit are made nicely for this, they will disable the front input 1 and 2 channels.

So if you were trying to record a stereo RCA feed into the firepod, you would need to convert the RCA to 1/4", and then run it into 2 inputs. Record both inputs and pan them hard left and right.

Kind of a hassle for recording a stereo source - i agree (when you consider other products that have a 1/8" stereo mini plug for example) - but the fact is that isn't the point of the firepod. It's made to record microphone or other line level in signals from instruments - mono.

However, it can certainly be done.

(If you had a stereo microphone like the Rode NT4 for example - it would have 2 XLR connections, one for each channel.)

In cubase, go to device, vst input device and turn on all of the channels on the list 1-8. Then, on the audio trk that you are using. Make sure you select the correct input channel on the firepod. On a stereo trk the input channel will show up as such i.e. ch 1+2, 3+4, 5+6 ect, ect. Lastly, on a mono trk the channels will show up as 1, 2, 3, 4, ect, ect. This will fix your problem for sure.

That's it - you set it up in the software. You can set up a stereo track to use any 2 of the 8 (or 10 if you use the digital) inputs at once. Assuming you have 2 different mics/inputs - in other words - like the guy said before - you shouldn't do a stereo recording if you're using only 1 mic/input.
