I wrote this song for my dad.

My interests have been in electronica/techno, industrial, so this was a big change for me. Thank you for any comments. One thing I would like to learn about is how to get more realistic sounding acoustic instruments, but I guess that depends on the samples and how you play them.

Over-all sound is really nice, I would have a couple of nit-picks on the sound of some of the instruments.

The Oboe or whatever that is sounds a little thin, the melody "string" is really synth-sounding, the bottom string is nice.

The change at 2:00 is really nice.

Nice song...........
Your Dad must be very proud.
I don't know from samples and synths but you should hunt up a guitarist to play some nice acoustic on this track.

Hey thanks for the advice. Most of the sounds are from the Triton Studio presets. I added some layering from the of the string pad from a Juno 106. I guess I can't get totally away from synth sounds! I wish I could play guitar too!

One area that I am trying to focus on is recording and mastering. I have zero experience with this stuff and it can be really frustrating sometimes. I think I've wasted more than a few hundred cdr's ttrying to make better recordings, but I guess it is a learning process.

I've been tracking into a Korg D1600, trying to stay at 8 track 24bits, but I wish I had more tracks. I can now get around the 1600 pretty well and it is a matter of spending time tweaking and listening. But the songs still come out low volume and certain part are not mixed well. I don't know whether to get into computer based recording.

As far as Dad goes, because he is "DAD", he critisized it! He said the break between the intro guitar and the reed is too long; that there should be overlap and he didn't like the snare. He's an aerospace engineer at a national defence company, so I guess he picks at things all the time. But, he did take a copy of the song to work and played it to his colleagues...

I will probably redo this sometimein the future.

For dad??? How exciting and intriguing a title. NOT. Made me think I would be listening to a sappy coutry tune instead of the awesome melancholy, highly melodic tune you posted.

Good mix too. I love it.

Wildcard Status: Yanni fans would LOVE this. I am a Yanni fan
