Anyone tried this ? I've got a vocal session tuesday and has just been to town and borrowed one, haven't plugged in it yet, but I've been checkin' their website and I'm almost in love :D

Anything less than their green series is not worthy of the Focusrite name.... YMMV, but I didn't like it....

now that makes me kind'a sad to hear Blue Bear, a good thing that I can return it, haven't tested it myself yet as I'm waiting for someone who can actually sing to come by .... now I'm sitting here wondering ... what does YMMV mean ???

My dad always said, "If you put rainbow sprinkles on a pile of shit, it doesn't make it a sunday."

--By no means am I saying the cheaper Focusrite products are shite. You'll have to forgive me, I have been reading Philip Newell's book 'Project Studios: A More Professional Approach'

I can't put it down. It is very eye opening. He goes over his opinions on equipment he calls "Promestic" , he puts an interesting spin on the marketing forces (companies, magazines) that drive us to by their gear. He makes the observation regarding the abuse of the word 'professional' on non-professional equipment. Great book............

I reccommend it

That IS an EXCELLENT book...........
I couldn't put it down either....

Biz.... YMMV = your mileage may vary

I tested about 15 or so different preamps before I made my decision to buy.

From what I remember, the Voicemaster Platinum was a bit "sterile" for my tastes.

Thanks for the replys guys .... checked the link tdukex, very informative ..... gonna read the other reviews too, maybe I'll find something interesting :D but for now - any recomandations on what to get ??? gotta be in the same pricerange

I've used the Red series... such a shame that they arent the same preamps, there would be no reason to buy anything else.

Obviosly I'm fairly new to the forum, so MMMV, but... it seems you will only bash things less expensive than a new automobile trying to make yourself seem more "pro". You don't have a Grace pre do you? Probably haven't even used one. How can you qualify yourself to answer someone's questions when you're obviously so blinded by "big wig" envy? How can you justify yourself to trod on those "at a lower level" than yourself? I've seen your equipment list - several things I would never even own if I were at an amateur level, but of course you're the big pro guy, with a Mackie 24/8 and Behringer processors, telling everyone else that their hard earned equipment is shite. You're alphajerk without any likable personality behind a hardcore image. Admit it and we'll just let this go and put our friend hats back on. But you'll probably just keep on belittling people who's money dosen't match their dreams to try to make up for your own inadequacies won't you? Sure, by throwing around high priced names you can intimidate others easily - I was intimidated for a minute on another post, but anyone reasonably able to think for theirself will see right through your hypocritical fog. Oh yeah, YMMV.

Matt
"Ah, I see my reputation impedes me."

Gimme a fuckin' break...

Whatever dude...

Not liking me or my opinions doesn't make Bellari gear any better --- it's still crap...........

A lot of Behringer is crap, as is the Marshall 2001 mic -- I have a couple of Behringer units and the 2001 mic, sometimes crud is actually called for in certain applications.... none of it is my first reach - but it is in my gear list simply because it is part of my inventory.

Anyways, if you don't like my posts, don't fuckin' read 'em..........

I don't like Bellari any more than you do, and having never tried that MXL mic, I have no opinion on it. You need not justify why you have these things if you like them, that is justification enough (opinion). As I stated before, I'm new in this neck of the woods, but it's nice to see you down from your pedestal. ;) My earlier complaint is the way you came (come) across, at least as it's percieved by some people (myself in this list). It's all in the presentation, dude. You may well be a great engineer, I wouldn't doubt it for a moment, maybe stick to advice where it will help, rather than discourage, eh? :D Just my $0.00000002 million.
No harm. No foul.

Sell me one of your $500k pres and I'll throw in some Valium.

So you only want the mono and not the dual channel, then? Geez, cheapskate.....
And I want Elavil, the good stuff... :)
The Red compressor is very creamy and thick, since you asked... sounds great on vocals.

hey tubedude i was thinking about getting a red series preamp in the future, im having a hard time deciding. i like the idea of not being able to totally screw up the recording because it doesnt have those options like the blue series;)
so tell me how did you like the red series preamp? i cant decide if i should just get the single preamp with none of the extra's or maybe one with a compressor, eq and pre? i'll probably being using a u87 with it if thats the mic i end up purchasing. so what are ur thoughts?? have any samples of it in action?
