Focusrite Platinum 5 Penta

Anyone had any experience with these? I'm shopping for pre's and I know focusrite has quite the reputation. This is obviously bottom of the barrel for them. Still can't be that bad though. Some others I have been looking at are HHB radius 40, and the meek's. I've seen the penta for the low low price of $376 clams. Seems like a bargain if it is a quality pre. Any thoughts?
 
The platinum line should be evaluated as it's own entity - it has little or no relation to the red or blue series upon which Focusrite made it's reputation. Like any other purchase, i would recommend auditioning and comparing before you buy.
 
I own a Joemeek MQ3, a Presonus BlueTube, and the Focusrite Penta. The Penta is my go-to pre, definitely. Take that for what it's worth.
 
Auditioning and comparing would be nice, but where I live, the music stores don't carry such items. And to have more than one for comparison is even funnier. HaHa
 
I recently got a Focusrite Platinum TrakMaster, and absolutely love it. If you can buy from a store with a good return policy, I'd say go ahead and take a chance on having to ship it back if you don't like it. I doubt you'll return it though. It may not be a Red, blue, or ISA, but it is a Focusrite.
