Im just looking at this in theoretical terms.

Would it be plausible/useable to make a setup like this or has anyone tried?
I dont care to hear about the legalities of such a device.

aux out from board>compressor/Limiter>5w Stereo FM modulator>portable mini fm reciever>in ear phones

I know this sound a bit silly considering I've got a PSM system (Im not considering trading in the PSM for this, I'm just genuinely curious.), but theoretically it should work just as well. However would the 5w (amount needed to provide a reliable signal) cause too much interference?

Here's what I have seen done in the past when recording a choir or other large group. You take a stereo FM transmitter, such as the Ramsey Electronics FM35,

and run the output of you mixer into it. The FM kit only transmits up to 1 watt which is plenty to cover inside most buildings as large as a basketball arena. you can then use any portable FM receiver you want, Walkman or whatever. Just pick a freq to transmit on the is not used commercially in the surrounding area and you should not run afoul of any broadcasting rules.

5 watts is a lot of power for FM, you could probably get a couple of miles down the road with 5 watts. Half a watt is more in line with what you want to do.
