what does a floating floor do?????
It floats.

Just kidding. Actually, it keeps sound waves from trasvelling between rooms.

You shold ask this question in the Studio Building section. You;ll get better informed answers there.

"Floating" is an installation method, not a type of hardwood.

A floating floor simply means that the floor itself is not attached the the sub floor, or butts up against the walls. So that the floor can breathe and exapand.

dancing rooms usually have floating floor, thus lead to less injuries.

The floating floors I've heard about are built on rubber hockey puck type feet with the flooring on top of it. Then walls and ceiling are built on that and ONLY that, so it does not touch any surface of the room that contains it. Keeping this inner room as disconnected as possible from the outer room helps prevent sound transmission in or out of the room. If done correctly, it can be very effective in soundproofing.
