Has anybody used those flexible gooseneck mic holders? You know the ones that you can move into position and they stay there?

Do you get any extra noise from vibration?
Do they screw up after a short time?

Cheers,

As in tabletop stands? Like this:-

I've got one and it's pretty useful for kick and guitar amp duties. I bought it because it was much much cheaper than a proper kick stand and it's done the job well for a couple of years with no sign of it wearing out. There's a little less floor noise than a cheap-end boom stand because of the cast iron base. My only issue is that the weight of a mic tends to cause it to fall over if it's bent right over. Nothing that keeping a sturdy doorstop handy doesn't solve though...

I've used goose necks for a variety of purposes, (lectern mics, mic stands, getting a mic into a difficult spot etc.) over more than a decade. You only need to be aware of the simple concept of balance & counterweight & you'll be sweet.
I did have some one complain once about it wearing out & constatntly dipping - I checked it out & it was the mic clip that had failed not the goose neck.
That said it's just a tool & will fail eventually if it's abused.

I've had decent results with them. With age, they can get droopy, and are not great for heavy mics like condensers. Worked well with mic'ing drums on occasion. Longer ones are pretty much useless, in my experience.

You can stiffen a goose-neck by either wrapping it with tape (yucky when you remove it,) or shrink-tubing (semi-permanent.)
