Hi

Usually, I apply delay and chorus on my vocals at the mixing phase. For my latest song, I used flanger on the electric guitar so I was wondering if I should apply delay and flanger on my vocals for that song or if I should stay with delay and chorus.

Thanks,

Jack Real.

I think stealthtech hit it. If it sounds good do it. Flange isn't a conventional effect for vocals but that doesn't make it less right. Experimenting is fun with stuff like that. That's a lot of how we all learn.

Good luck.

Hi

I tried it yesterday and the results were ordinary. It's sounded o.k. but not great. Maybe it's because i'm used to delay and chorus on my voice but I like that effect better on the voice even if the song has a guitar with flanger.

Thanks,

Jack Real.

it might also depend on the flanger you use.

i tried some stuff with a free flanger-plugin (blueline). naaaaa, couldn't get a decent sound for vocals.

but then I discovered waves metaflanger, which a friend lent me.

grrrrreat'a!

I used it on a jimi hendrix cover i just finished today - the wind cries mary. yeah... sounds killer!

p.s.: i didn't use it on the guitar because I think you should use these "very-special-effects" only on one thing in a mix.

You're only allowed to use flanger on vocals if you wear a tie dyed shirt while tracking.

Hi

Yes, I think the type of flanger can make a big difference. Since my vocal is panned at 11h00 and the guitar at 1h00, I thought I could create something interesting by having the same effect on both. I'm using a Yamaha DJ stomp for the guitar and a Lexicon for the vocal so I might try to match the 2 flangers as closely as possible to see if it creates something interesting. Also, I could deactivate the delay and flanger on the DJ stomp and use the Lexicon effect for the guitar also. I will try that the next time I mix the song.

Thanks,

Jack Real.

Hi, I work with the audio police. I must now arrest you for committing flangacide.
