A friend of mine wanted to know (because hes considering getting Pro Tools M-Powered)... can FL Studio be rewired into other programs like Cubase or Pro Tools? Or does FL Studio just serve as a rewire host for rewiring other programs like Reason into itself?

I already know Reason can be rewired into pro tools for tracking out beats (I just realized you can track out more than one track at a time from Reason also lol)

What's up QB. I never used FL but would think it's just a host.

As far as I know, you can run FL into Pro Tools via Rewire. I used the older version. Don't know about the latest version...

2 different answers, damn lol. guess im stuck. what do u use ment? do u rewire?

lol! I was just guessing because I know I can't rewire Audition into Cubase or vice versa. So I wouldn't think you can rewire FL into anything but I could be wrong. I use Cubase SX3 with Reason rewired into it and used to use Audition with Reason rewired.

Let me just say it can be done many ways.

I can use FL Studio 6 Pro as stand alone

or

I can use FL Studio thru rewire via Cubase VST/32

or

My favourite option is to use FL Studio as a VSTi via Cubase VST/32. Doing it this way you don't have to set up rewire everytime you load in a project. So you save some time and headaches this way.

I'm also 99% sure that newer version of Cubase like SX series and Cubase 4 will work pretty much work the same as VST/32. Although setting up might vary slightly between versions.

ps

Fruity Loops since version 3.5 will work with any software that suppport Rewire or VSTi. So I think if you wanted to you could rewire Fruity Loops via Reason or Vice Versa, because both support rewire.

I have recently been playing around with reason rewired into cubase and I love it, I am still learning things because I haven't been doing it for very long.

I have also been starting to use FL a little bit more because I like the flexibility I have with timestretching/pitching samples. I don't have to throw the sample back and forth between a few different programs. I have tried to rewire it with cubase but I am still trying to figure out how to get everything on separate channels so I can add different effects like I do with reason. I would imagine that there is some easy way to do it, but I just haven't figure it out yet. Not sure exactly what I am going to do once I get a song done and I want to export it either.. haha, but I've gotten good at learning new programs on the fly!

I got a bit offtrack haha, but that would probably be an amazing combo (FL/Cubase or protools).

Bah, gotta love what you can accomplish with a little research! FL faq's ftw!

Speaking of Rewiring etc.... I'm new to MIDI, and have a partial concept of rewiring. Which is basically making something like Reason work in say Sonar right? What's the benefits of this? Also would like to know if Rewire is a standalone product, or comes as a feature in Reason or FL?

Rewire is a protocol that comes standard with Reason and FL. The benefits of using rewire is that you can use the mixing features of an actual sequencer to mix down ur tracks from reason. It also gives you the ability to use reason with VSTs through your sequencer. Plus the ability of having all ur tracks tracked out one by one in a real sequencer.... to find out how to rewire Reason to whatever DAW ur using check this out: http://www.propellerheads.se/rewirehelp

Like quiteb03 said, the great thing about rewire is that you can expand the uses of let's say Reason. If you use a Pro Tools session at somethink like 96K and rewire tracks from Reason, the quality is amazing. Also, in Reason you can't use plugins like Waves, it gives you a great option to process your favorite plugins... And the sound quality is a lot better when we go through Pro Tools. That's why I rewire for final projects. To me the mixes sound clearer and the instruments more separated.

hmm interesting. I'mma try it tonight, rewire reason into pro tools. So I can use my Waves & other plug-ins to mess with it? That's clean.
