I have a dell g1 which is all messed up. need to get o/s on fat and off of ntsf partition. problem is lost the driver to the cdrom in the process. Was told if I have the know how to stick in my other hard drive off my other computer to delete the ntsf partition and install my windows 98 o/s. can this all be done just by installing my other hard drive to be able to load the driver I need to run the cdrom to load the o/s? or i'm i missing something here?

You should have a bootable floopy disk. if so, you can use FDISK to delete the partition. If you dont have a boot disk, you can go to another computer if you have access to one and make one. It will let you boot your computer with CDrom drivers. Do you want to install win98? If so, get a boot disk, use fdisk to delete partitions and format the drive then do a clean install of windows.

actually I took out the hard drive and installed my spare that has windows xp pro on it. all cool except no cdrom driver? how do I find it? I unpluged the ide cable and turn off the computer and plugged it back hoping the computer would say new found hardware but no luck but didn't unplug its power source. woops maybe I sould do that also.

now that I have a hard drive in the computer that has the o/s on fat instead of ntsf I can now use my fdisk to clean out the windows xp and start over with windows 98. home studio should work with this o/s. I just hope my cdrom will work after I clean out the system. if not will have to install my other cdrom.

Why dont you FIND a driver? There are plenty of generic CDROM drivers online!

thats what I'm looking for now but will have to load it on that computer with a floppy since the cdrom isn't working.
