Functionally obsessed.
Hey folks,

Some time ago, I plugged the wrong power supply into my Boss TR-2 tremelo pedal. It made a bad smell (i.e. burning) and then stopped working. It now won't work with a 9v battery. It's broken.

Does anyone have any idea about fixing this? None of the semiconductors on the circuit board appear visibly burnt or broken, and I'm curious about stepping through the circuit with my multimeter to check for continuity.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Just for fun, change D1 and D4 with a 1N4004, and change C9 with a 100uF/16VDC capacitor. You may get lucky.

Not to sound dumb here, but what would be the purpose of doing that? I'm curious :)

Anyone have any suggestions?

I like my TR-2, but then I like mashed potatoes, so consider the source. You can check all around Q6, and if you see +5.5VDC or so, then I was wrong. But if you see '0', D1 is open, D4 is shorted, or C9 is shorted. If you can signal trace it, you'll get it. I would do it, too, since it is a fun pedal. What other tremolo can you get? Maybe a Roto-Vibe, but they're a different animal. Actually, I have an old DOD Vibro-Thang, and that's another fun pedal.

im a little slow to start.

Thanks for that link. Its seems to be one of the only ones I've come across while searching for the schematics for this pedal. I'm looking for the schematics or a picture of the PCB for the newer model??? main board assembly 70901390RO I can't find it anywhere and I really want to get this pedal fixed for my buddy before he heads out on tour. thanks for any help or suggestions peeps.TR2 PCB 70901390RO Boss.webp

it wont turn on. I had nothing to work with so i went through and learned how to read everything on the board and did so, annotating everything, well mostly everything. I found that R27, R37 and R47 were off by more than their rated allowances. I ordered metal film instead of carbon ( and have come to terns with the possibility of a slightly (un) noticeable change in tone, being not so "warm" from what I have read) and didnt even get the right wattage because I was on vaca away from the parts when I went on what I thought was the perfect amazon deal binge. End the end, i have over 2000 parts awaiting some poor piece of equipment needing repair. They will have their day.
