I recorded the bad plus last week...there are some phrases were clipping occurs, and the wavforms have the "squared off" "stick of butter" look. Anyone know a fix for this??I have wavelab 5, sf8, and the waves DIAMOND plugin pack ...i want to restore this as best i can..

Thanks

The only way to fix clipping is to NOT CLIP in the first place.... that's why tracking and watching levels is so important. 0dBFS MEANS 0dBFS -- after that it's ugly digital distortion.

There are "clip fixer"-type plugs, but I've yet to hear one that actually works even modestly well. At best, all you can really do is pull down the level for the parts that clip, and maybe soften the top-end with EQ to minimize the harshness.... other than that, re-tracking is in order...

I second that. Re-recording it is the only decent option.

... sorry, no magic fixes. :o

It really depends on how severe the clipping is.

If it's just one waveform or two, then it's really no big deal. What you can do is re-draw the very top of the wave, provided you have an editor that has this feature (I know SoundForge allows for this). If your drawing skills are sharp, you won't ever even know the difference.

If it's large segments of the audio, then I'm afraid you're basically screwed.

unless the take is a once in a lifetime event, re-recording is the best bet. otherwise, you can use SF8 to soften it - i have used the clip restoration plugin along with some manual tweaks, compression and eq to at least make the distortion less painful but there is really no fix... although if you change the song genre to death metal or punk it may work without having to fix it :-)

Possibly the greatest idea i've heard in a while!

:D

at that point you only have 2 options

re-track it, or tell everyone you did it on purpose :D
