Hi All! First, thanks for a great site! I found it today looking for information on setting up my first home recording studio. I've been reading and learning as much as I can.
What i know.....Bass Traps are a must. All the frequency stuff really has me boggled. I'll describe my set up and I'll post a floor plan of it in a day or two.
Bassically I have two adjoining rooms.
The mixing room(my bedroom) is 14'x10'x8'. On one of the 10' walls I have a ~5'x2.5' closset and a window. My plan is to put my computer and monitors centered on the 10' wall without the closet and window. The only other things that will be in the room are my queen bed a small tables.
The recording room(my guitar room) is 10'x10'x8'. Not ideal I know. But it's what I have. I will be mainly recording electric guitar. It also has an identical closet and window as the mixing room. This room houses all of the house hold guitar gear and my room mates computer desk.
I'm not looking to build a super studio just one I can be proud of and get desent recordings/mixes from. With that said I'll be doing everything on the cheap. Tube Bass traps with the pipe insulation and such.
Should I treat the recording room the same as the mixing room? If not what should I do different? From what I've read the recording room should be more "live", or have more reflections than the mixing room is this correct?
I think I have the bass trap idea grasped. No what about the echoes and ringing? Is this what diffusers are for? What constitutes a diffuser?
Any help at all with Mode Calc and with the ringing/echo stuff would be great! Sorry for the newbie questions. I'll keep reading and learning. Just wanted to say Hi! and let you know what I'm planning.
Dave
