First time using integrated audio

(Posted this in another heading but probably should have put it here first).

I just got a new PC (quad core, 6Gs of RAM). A long time ago I was using physical synths and hooked them up to the computer with a Delta soundcard and it was pretty self explanatory.

However, becuase I no longer have room for more than one synth I just bought a keyboard controller and some synth software (the Korg Legacy Digital Collection/Wavestation). This is my first time running synths through the computer.

I have the keyboard controller connected via USB and the software and audio are up and running, but now I do not understand how to get the recording software to recognize the audio.

I have an integrated sound card on my new PC and I have installed several multitrack recordring software programs (even my old Cakewalk Home Sudio from 2002). They all seem to install just fine and open up correctly, but I can't get them to identify any input audio drivers. I somehow thought it would just record from the 'mixer' of the PC audio but I can't figure out how to configure the recording software to do this with nothing showing up in the 'input driver' options. I know with the Delta card that was the recognized card, but the internal/integrated audio card is not showing up.

Am I missing something or is there no way to both record and play the software synths through the computer at the same time?

And if not, what would I have to use for my multitrack recorder/sequencer?

Assistance would greatly be appreciated as I am confused on this.

Thanks

Still using a built-in soundcard?? Unfortunately, those are made with less than $1 worth of chips for beeps, boops and light gaming (not to mention cheapness for the manufacturer) and NOT quality music production.

#1 Rule of Recording: You really should - in fact, MUST replace the built-in soundcard.

Here's a good guide and tested suggestions: http://www.tweakheadz.com/soundcards_for_the_home_studio.htm

Unfortunately I do not have an extra PCI slot for another sound card so I am stuck with this particular one.

I am still not sure how to get my Cakewalk software to recognize the soundcard as input.

Any other suggestions?
