TCB,

That's a great swinging' tune! The vocal front man and the female back-ups were spot on perfect and with the right amount of soul and feel that the song deserved.

Some of the supporting players were not quite as strong by comparison however. The drumming was a little too sparse and controlled with little to no swing or emotion in them.

The guitar was good but not great timing wise. There seemed to be a lack of cohesion between him and the drummer at the head of the track.

Horn stabs were a nice touch but seemed a little out of place in the mix. The sax, (?) solo was much better!

Ending was a little rough as was the beginning intro, it took a while to get everyone into sync.

I would bet heavy money that if played live, this song would gel much better then the studio version.

Was that too rough a critique? Sorry, you asked for it! :)

Bottom line;

It's a great track that just needs a bit more heart and soul in the playing and you'll really have something there.

Cheers! :)

I'd like to hear the kick drum and the bass a it louder in the mix. Just think it would add some power to the sound.

Also, I was reaching to hear the guitar on the right side. A little to far back in the mix for me. Keeping it up a bit shouldn't take away from the left side since the panning is nice and the parts are different.

Just my unprofessional opinion. :D

But I really did enjoy the song, and I liked the vocals.

Cool tune!

This is kind of a southern rock tune, kind of Delbert-y.

More like Wynonna Judd.LOL.Thats who originally wrote it and sung it.

I thought it started at as southern rock tune, but as it got going, it sounded more like an r&b tune. It's not my slice of pie, but it's a very good recording. I love the sax solo! Great backups as well.

Here's what I didn't like:
The bass drum sound is kinda flat.

That's it! :) Very nice job!

I had no idea, I guess I should have read the disclaimer thingy. I hope I am not locked up.

I wasn't trying to pass it off as an original. In the Carolina Beach music scene, playing other people's stuff is normal, unfortunately. I know that the tune (and all the tunes for the current project) have been cleared, licensing-wise. I don't know what that means for Nowhere Radio, so I'll shoot them an email.

Incidentally, the "Somebody To Love You" was written by Gary Nicholson and Delbert McClinton, and recorded by Wynonna Judd.

Anyway, anybody have any suggestions on livening up the kick drum?

Also, if I turn up the bass anymore (or the kick, for that matter), it gets muddy and boomy on home stereos. Any suggestions?

The name of the band is Coastline Band, by the way.

Thanks again.

One of my most favorite genres. In the front end of the tune when the organ swells, the keyboard has some extreme low end that needs shelving off. when it passes the guitar theres a small tone clash for a sec. The bass drum needs notching a little above 112 and let the bass through some more, and turn the bass up some. You can put some snap back on the kick around 400. The horns are a little loud and there`s some transients on the stabs that peg them out a bit.The drums sound good but are a little bit too up front. Id bring the female voice up a little more and the primary vocal, they are competing some with the horns. The basic rythym section sounds good and a little looseness feels good for this stuff, but some of the muddiness is hiding some of the cool rythyms that are going on. IF you do that notch on the kick the low end of the instruments will all probly come out nicely. Kickin tune, sax solo was really good, in fact I liked all the parts well. Damn good first post here..

Vocals sound great on this track.

The panning is excellent as well as the overall vibe of the piece.

Listening on pc speakers, I find that the kick is almost totally absent and the snare lacks a deeper tone (but that may just be my opinion on snares. For this kind of music a higher snare may be perfect). I really liked that hi-hat play towards the end of the chorus, definately keep that in and see if you can add just a tad of kick and snare.

The horns attacked me at some points, but this mix is overall very clear. Not too often do you hear a mix where all the instruments are so audible.

Good job!

Yeah, the bass really needs to drive this and its just is not there.

The Organ - put some high end on it so it cuts through, or just turn it up especially at the beginning.

How about some verb on that sax solo, make it a little haunting.

No complaints on the vocals, tracked mixed and performed well.

Cymbals - get them out of that dirty dish water. They are not sparkling on the high end the way they should. And the hi hat - lost in the shuffle. Where's the darn cow bell? This thing needs a cow bell to drive it at the end.

Overall it took me there and I liked it. Good tune.

Thanks for the great ideas.

What this song need is MORE COWBELL!!! It really is a great idea.

Thanks again, I'll post another one soon!
