So lets hear it. What do you people think. First post, so be as brutal as possible. Thats the only way I will learn.

ps. extra points to anyone who can name the song i ripped the chorus off from.

In my opionion, THIS SUCKS. You said to be honest. LOL just kiddign I really think this is awesome man major props. What did you use to record the guitar and the bass??

The guitar was done through a V-Amp 2 through a Behringer Mixer

The bass was plugged directly into the mixer.

All done in Cool Edit Pro.

Thanks for the positive feedback!

Cool song =), Is the chorus from an offspring song by any chance?
what soundcard you got?

btw, killer signature! :D

I don't know which song, but that sounds like a band from Fat Wreck. They all use that drumbeat, haha!

It's badly recorded pussy punk done in a paint by numbers cookie cutter pop style.

Love the lyrics.

The whole recording is lackluster and plain, the toms sound stupid and the whole drum tracks sounds sped up and not played real time at all. Since it's an SR16 I guess it sounds ok.

Lame song, no point at all.

OK you want brutal/honest. Here goes. Guitar is basically OK, but there is no air moving there. Guitar is a melodic instrument , too. The piece is repetitive, and that means boring. It needs a bridge, or a key change, or something. It also needs an amp and a mic. Bass is fairly tight, and sticks to the guitar just fine, but the drums, however fast, are in La La land. Drum sounds like a snare and a couple of toms. Crash, ride, high hat, and kick are missing in action. Either the drums weren't following you, or you weren't following them. The drums are the major issue with that track, both in terms of sound and execution. The sound is so dead, you can't tell if the drimmer is fucking up, or the guy programming the drums is fucking up. Drums and guitar are simply in two different places at two different times. It sounds over compressed, lacking either change or dynamics. After I had heard 20 seconds, I had heard the whole song. I kept waiting for something I hadn't heard, but it never came.
The good news- pretty good sound was gotten out of the VAMP, what settings were used? What kind of axe and pickups? Bass was good, but got buried in the mix a little. I would probably boost the mids on the bass a little, and mix bass up. That's partially because I want to bury the drums, though. -Richie

HAHAHA, yeah, I was rockin the drums in FruityLoops, and its difficult to get anything decent from that program unless you are trip-hop/electronica. For the vamp setting, it was 5C (whichever that was, wasnt paying attention, though i know it was a rectified head). My axe is a shitty Samick that I swear NOBODY has ever heard of before, and the pickups, I have no idear.

As for the song itself, it was basically just something to practice mixing with. I recorded the song from start to finish in about an hour and a half. I wanted to start experimenting with using eq's and whatnot.

And good job noodles, the chorus is from a song called "Falling in Love" by NOFX, the kings of Fat Wreck.

Thanks Richard for the constructive criticism.

Needs a bit of variety in there, Nice track though. I think you need to sort out your drums, theyre out of time at places and i couldnt really tell whether it was the drums slightly out or the guitar was out, or if it was intentional...

Also, get some lyrics in there :) Would sound tons better with lyrics.

Sounds like a song from NOFX - Punk in Drublic. The guitars sound like they were recorded direct; it's a hard sound to escape. The song's structure is predictable in terms of punk, but fitting. Keep them coming.
