I got a Fender Super Champ X2, so I threw this together, wanting to record something.

Any help about the mix in general is always helpful, but especially about the guitar tones would be greatly appreciated. I'm still getting to know this amp, and I have a feeling I might have dialed up a few thin-ish sounds. I did want a sort of piercing sound for the lead, but I'm wondering if it's a little to razor-ish.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I'll be re-mixing this a few times, so any advice will definitely help ad be appreciated.

NO AIR NOWHERE

Sounds like the treble knob is on 6.25 - Perfect.

I'm not hearing any razor tones anywhere. Listening thru JBL-E100 speakers and a HTD amp, flat, if that helps.

Hey RAMI! This sounds pretty damn good. The rhythm guits are bright, but they're not thin. (And when I say bright, I mean a good bright!) You can feel free to mix this as many times as you like, but I it sounds done to me. I'd love to get my stuff sounding this good.

I'm listening as I type, so I just heard the lead--when you said it was piercing, I was expecting the worst. I know Fender amps can go into ice-pick territory, but this wasn't piercing at all. Again, it was bright, but in a good way. Over all the guit sounds were crisp and energetic--and very well balanced by the bass line.

Congrats on the new amp and the tune!

Not bad. The lead and accent bits sound really good. The wide rhythms are kind of thin and midrangey to me. They lack some meat and fullness. It might just be the way you play the rhythms because during the chorus they sound better. I'd look to add some chunk in there though with a re-track or smart EQ. A little notch around 2400 and a little boost around 130 might fatten em up some. It also kind of sounds like it was tracked sort of quietly. The guitars have a stiffness to them that's usually typical of low-ish volume tracking.

So what mic did you use on the speaker and where'd you put it? What are the amp settings?

The rest sounds really good. That's some sick ass drumming. The play between the kick and bass is stellar.

Thanx a lot Slick. You were close, the treble is on 4. :)

Thanx a lot Strat. Yeah, I guess "crisp" is the word I was looking for. I was just scared it might be too crisp. Thanx a lot for listening and the comments.

Thanx Grag. I know what you're saying about the rythms that are left and right. I did want them to not be big, so I played the chords in a voicing where I'm just using the 2,3, and 4th string. Also, this being a new amp and all, I might have gotten a little ambitious. I wanted to use a few different sounds, and for those guitars, I used a setting that's supposed to be a clean sound, but I cranked up the gain. So, it's probably a sound that's not meant to be distorted. Volume-wise, the guits were pretty loud. I had the amp on 6, which is pretty loud down here.

I used a SHURE PG48 and placed it half-way between the edge of the dust cap and the outside edge of the speaker.

Thanx for all the help so far. I'm sure future tracks will sound better once I experiment with the amp more.

The more I listen, the more I think the guitars can use a global cut around 2-3k. When I said "piercing", I think that's what I was referring to. There's a frequency that, if I turn my head just the right way, I can hear singing at me like a whistle. Or maybe that's the kettle.......be right back.

Yup, you'll get it dialed in in no time. The first amps I seriously started tracking with took me about 6 months to really get to the point where it was almost automatic. Then I started buying my own and started the process all over. It just takes time and experimentation. This isn't bad. I feel like I get what you're going for, and I can hear it in my head. You're close though. For me, I'd trade a little of the bite for some low end fullness. It could just be as simple as tilting the mic or moving it half an inch.

Is that a 10" speaker?

Lol. Yes, exactly. That ~2400 notch I mentioned could tame that spike a little. 1200, 2400, 3600...those all seem to be spiky regions with guitar tracks. I don't know why. Any amp I record, if I get some spike, I look to those areas.

Yeah, 10", and the mic I'm using looks like a 58 (hope you saw my edit, it's a PG48), which means the ball is about 2" wide. So, considering I only have about 4" between the edge of the dust cap and the edge of the speaker, putting where I did has it pretty much at the edge of the dust cap anyway. Those guitar parts would be easy to re-track. I'll first try to do it with the same sound and move the mic around. If that doesn't help, I'll just dial in a fuller sound.

Well I'd say try a little EQ first. Not much. A little notch in the upper mids somewhere can help a lot. See what it does. Don't you have a 57 on your snare? Swipe that bad boy and use it on the cab. It would probably be easier to position than that big ol dildo mic. :D

No, on my snare I have an Audiotechnica ATM63 HE. I once did a shot out to find the mic that sounds the best on my snare and on my cab, and the 57 lost out of the 3. But I'll try the 57 again on this cab, which I didn't think of doing. Good idea. :D

REALLY good stuff RAMI.
I think the rhythm guitars bite a little too hard, (nothing ice pick or headache making), and need a tooth file as well as some meat - but not much.

It was easy to listen to but repeated listening might be a little fatiguing on the ear holes.
Cool song!

Sounds solid to me. I would agree with rayc RE: the rhythm guitar but it's not a real big problem. The drums sounds fantastic as always! Great tune too :thumbs up:

I'll be keeping this mp3 :D

Like it. Love the bass tone, drums, and how well they're playing with eachother. Some of you guys really have it down.

For the style I kind of like the guit tone, but on a second listen through it is a bit fatiguing on the ears.

Excellent performance, as always.

Maybe you just need an SG. :D
I concur like a mofo. :D

What guit are you playing?

Dang Rami , your tunes are so damn tight! Bass guitar is awesome, and to me, the bass guitar and drums are the highlights of this track....guitar sounds great as well, not "ice-pick" at all imho.Man, this has a great groove!

Thanx Ray. I will be re-visiting the rythm guitars. Thanx a lot.

Thanx Mick. I have a Made in Japan Strat. Looking into getting an SG.

Thanx man. Glad the guitars aren't chopping your hair off. Sill will probably at the very least EQ them.

Wow. Started listening and googled the new amp and proceeded to forget I was listening to a rough mix. I think it's radio-ready. I didn't read the other comments; TL/DR, but it sounds good to me all the the way around.

Great song. Downloading.
