After too many years of dealing with local flakes and waiting to get into the studios to record, I decided to just record my own mostly instrumental "sketchpad" stuff and have a good musician every now and then come in and sit in. 90% of the stuff is all me though although I made the band page bio up and interview to sound like a band but who really cares? I'm up for collaboration to track drums in this vein of music since that's my primary instrument so if anyone needs a REAL, 20+yr. experienced drummer to track with, hit me up and if we're mututally interested and if possible, let's record over the net. Anyway...Please check out my junk at:

I know the site is sloooow at the present and they're promising an upgrade of servers within the week so please bear with them.

Before you comment: I already know the deficiencies of the Death Grip song and it was a song I had transferred from a Tascam 4 track to PC but I've lost both the originial tapes to gremlins and the digitized tracked files in a freak partiton wipe so I know about the hiss at the bginning and whatnot and the other tehchnical defeciencies but my wife loves the heck out of it so I promised I'd put it up for her.

I mixed all this stuff on a set of Koss UR 15C headphones and don't have access to what I would call reliable reference monitors so if there's too much treble or boomy bass in the stuff, by all means, let me know or let me know if it all agrees with your setups.

Thanks in adavance.

Hi fritz,

Faster is a lot of fun. Was banging my head in spite of myself.

Sneak Heist is a tasty track. Love the drum sound and performance.

Junk F*** is the only one of the three (didn't listen to "death grip") that made me say "Where are the vocals?" Maybe that's the subliminal effect of your A.I.C. reference; I'm waiting for Layne to start in...

As far as the mixes go, it sounds like everything is or is pretty close to panned dead center, with maybe a stereo reverb effect. I think you would get much better definition on each instrument if you used the whole spectrum, in particular on "Sneak Heist".

It sounds like you've got some noise going on (guitar or bass hum) and the mixes are too bright. "junk F***" is really too bright.

But overall, nice stuff and excellent drum work.

Thanks a million for the input qwincy. I'm assuming all the text you wrote under Junk F. is concerning that song. Yeah I wish I knew a Layne Staley sound-alike to track to that song. lol. I will check the treble in that because it does sound much brighter than the other songs. You hit the nail on the head about things being panned dead center. I had a problem with a massive amount of low end rumble after hunting down a spectrograph pligin so in hindsight before I ran the spectrograph and mixed it down, the high end brightness was to compensate for the massive amount of low end it seemed to have on my phones but I'll tame it back a bit and take your critque to heart.

I truly thank you for listening and taking the consideration and your time to post a reply.

Layne...what a loss of talent that was. Poor bastard :( I mean, I'm not the biggest AIC fan (like them, don't love them), but his voice was just awesome.

Anyway, it was my pleasure to listen. I learn a ton myself just from listening to stuff here.

This has nothing to do with the original post but I just have to relay this story while on the subject of AIC... A girl from the class of '96 I went to school with is actually dating Jerry Cantrell's brother and was on the set of MTV Cribs when her and Jerry's brother visitied Jerry's ranch near Atoka, Oklahoma. I never got to catch that particular showing of Cribs but she is supposed to be caught on camera on that episode hanging around the house with a few other guests. She's a busty, curly blonde about 5'5 120lbs. and always wears a copious amount of lipstick so if you happen to catch that episode, try to keep an eye out to verify this story. She's supposedly been allowed to use Jerry's "wardrobe" credit card to purchase clothes, went with the Cantell family to Hawaii and I can vouch that she was dressed up and looked much better last time I actually saw her which was about a year ago and she verified the story below.

She's relayed all kinds of stories through my best friend about her misadventures with the Cantrells. One story that sticks out most is that when she first visted the ranch during a party inside the main house, there is a black cat that freaked out on her on the way to the bathroom during the small get-together and scratched her like crazy when she tried to pet and love on it. She got so bothered by the feral beast's disrespect that she drunkenly wrestled it down to submission and chucked the cat outside. When she returned to the "party", the occupants and guests were somber and the house was now filled of really awkward, uncomfortable silence. Jerry's dad, the "Rooster" himself, gruffly barked at her that cat was not just any cat but was the late Layne Staley's cat and stormed out of the house to fetch it. Jerry more politely informed her to play nice with the late Layne's psycho cat although it's mean and to not throw it outside since it was primarily an indoor cat that was (at the time) still recouperating from starvation and malnutrition from the time when Layne committed suicide and the time his body was found...It was also disoriented, confused and edgy from all the relocation from Washington state to Oklahoma as well after the tragic incident....

...at least that's how I remember the story went. Funny but creepy at the same time.
