Hello folks,

As my band number x disbanded a few months ago I decided that I am tired of people laziness and want to do all the stuff myself (playing/programming instruments, recording and making songs). This is my first serious attempt (have played with audacity before) to record a friend of mine singing. Any critique is welcome :)

Just noticed - isn't electric guitar a bit too far off on the left side?

Thanks!

Singer is a little pitchy at times. Panning choices are personal, the guitar works for me. The 'strings' fight the vocal at times (a little loud), specially when they are doing the stacatto thing.

This track is kind of quirky. Maybe the vocal is a bit pitchy, but it had an appealing air of vulnerability which I liked. I've certainly heard way worse.

I liked the space in the mix, but I didn't enjoy the messiness of the space. At times the guitar on the left, the midi on cello, the vocal and the bass were all noodling away without any real integration or any reference to each other.

I reckon this would scrub up nice if there was some work done to develop the arrangement a little better.

Curiously, as I was typing this, Soundcloud firedup another track, which was just her and guitar doing walk on the wild side. And you know what? I actually liked it better. But even more, it is now playing Gravity; just vocals and guitar, and this is even better. Her voice is way more in control.

What I am hearing is some of the instruments hitting what appears to be wrong notes. Along with with what gecko said, it just seems messy. I also think the vocals are a tad too far back.

It sounds very much like a live recording in a coffee house or so.
It's a tad boomy.

Scoop out lo's / lo-mids on the bass and boost at 500-1000 to get the bass less mushy. You might want to listen to those same cuts on the guitar track too.

She's singing that cover very well. Bit too much reverb on guitar and vocs for my taste.

Schwarzenyaeger: what makes a not so much live sounding recording? More compression and processing in general?

I like the fact that it sounds live and would like to keep it that way. I kinda like much reverb as well, tried less, but this works better to me. Will cut low mids on bass/guitar.

Thanks for comments :)
