Alright so I'm just going to set the atmosphere real quick...
I'm a vocalist in a band that plays what I can only describe as the resulting offspring of a love triangle between Brutal Death Metal, Technical Death Metal and Melodic Death Metal. We just need to record a very crappy version of one of our songs to put on facebook or myspace or whatever to show people so we can start getting into shows easier.
Everything has gone fine so far(we recorded two guitars, keys and drums). I'm using Sony Sound Forge(While I have fruity loops, I'm not knowledgeable whatsoever as to how the recording works so it always ends up coming out shittier than desired). When I tried recording vocals from my UM 99 the sound was ridiculous. I at least will need a wind screen I suspect, or something to filter out that horrible air being pushed out of my throat.
I honestly have no idea what I'm doing and could use some advise on anything I could do to improve the quality of my recording. Otherwise, I'll just screw around with the placement of my mic and the setting in sony sound forge until I get something that sounds acceptable. Treat me like a complete newbie.
EDIT: My issue was with the quality of the sound that was recorded and the volume. I'm using a UM 99 Dynamic Cardioid microphone which I have plugged directly into my computer through the microphone jack. My audio device type is ASIO4ALL v2. I'm in my bedroom.
