Slowing becoming un-noob.
In my opinion, our best sounding song yet. Especially the drums.

Song is "Somebody Else's Fault"

Let me know what you think.
Thanks guys.

Comments and criticism always welcome.

I have to tell you I don't like the snare at all: it sounds like it's under a pillow in the next room.
The pan movement of the bass is unusual (could use a little definition).
The song's good - the guitars work.
Clapping's cool.
The main vocal works well too!Good song - needs some tinkering though.

The snare? alright. So like what are you thinking? more compressed? maybe add some high end to it?

Yeah, the panning of the bass was just an experiment of sorts. It sounded great through the monitors, but when I listened to it through my headphones, it was just too annoying/weird.

Thanks for the input!

Not exactly my kinda sound but pretty well played. Recording needs some wok though. It all sounds so muffled to me. Drums have very little definition and the voices sound as if the singers were standing 10 feet away from the mic. With some work this could be a good recording.

Joey :):):):)

Sounds very lo-fi, which is okay for this genre. The main problem - to me - with the drums is they sound like they were recorded with one mic and the snare is too ringy. It sounds like the snare wires were disengaged. The kick has no definition whatsoever. It really just depends on what you want this to sound like. Does it sound clean and polished? No way. Does it sound raw and live and fun? Hell yeah. So, I don't know what to tell you. The performances are good. The recording - not so much - but it's still pretty cool.

So any suggestions on getting more definition in the drums? We're going to re-track the vocals for the chorus. I feel that the verse vocals are good where they are.

Alright, so we definitely want a better recorded sound. So more definition in drums is definitely a big thing. Re-track some vocals.
How would we go about making it more clean and polished. The guitars sound a little off to me during the chorus's...Considering re-tracking those if we can't figure anything out with effects in terms of compression/eq/limiters/gates, etc. but yeah.
We'll definitely work on the ringy snare.

I like it. My only beef is that the spread in the first couple cycles is too wide. Same critique I offered on "Surf Jones". The instruments aren't working together. It's like three guys soloing, because of the remoteness of the sources....I think. Sounds like hard L&R pans. My brain hears them individually...instead of as a unified push. It sounds much better a couple cycles into the tune...there's some additional source sound between 45 to 60 % L&R??

Well, in my opinion, the first key to a big, pro sound is good drums. Whether you use a 3 piece coctail kit or a 10 pc hair metal monster, you gotta get the drums sounding good or the rest of the mix will sound cheap and amateurish. You can have 10 grand worth of guitars and amps and the best singer in the world, but bad drums underneath everything will ruin a mix. I don't think your guitars and vocals are far off, so focus on the drums. Start with tuning them to sound good. From what I can hear, those drums sound terrible. You know what, pardon the self-promotion, but read this:

This is a little article I wrote about recording and mixing rock-style drums. It's all just my opinion, but I think I get pretty good drum sounds simply by using care and common sense in my approach. I think it will help if you want to read it.

We re-mixed the song and worked with the drums alot. Got the snare sounding more tight, and the bass drum more defined. I'll upload it soon.
We're REALLY trying to avoid re-tracking drums. It's a huge pain in the ass for our situation here at school.
But yeah.
Thanks for the link, I'm checkin' it out now.

You guys play well. up the recording style and sound quality.
although lo-fi is cool in ska/punk. songwriting was great. ballsy.

Peace, Love & Thanks.
