Here's the first song that I recorded on my new DAW. It was just supposed to be a practice song so i could learn how to use my stuff.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks to Geet73 for the server.

vocal is outa tune. does'nt sound bad besides that for a practice tune. what equipment you learning to use? I'm also just learning my equipment.

Yeah I know about the vocals. Problem is the guitar and vocals were out of tune because they were both just quick practice takes. Now I'm posting it so I deserve what I get.

I built a new computer with:

AMD 64 3200 I think?
1 gig ram

Soundcard is an EMU 1820M which so far I love. Just got a new AT 4033. Used Reason for the bass and drums and Emulator X for the synthy sounds.

Thanks again for the reply. Any more advice?

pc is self built cheapo box, amd 1 ghz 768 ram, 2 80 gb hd's. other stuff is in my sig. trying to learn my mixer, soundcard soft mixer, and Sonar soft mixer and midi routing.

Nice sounds. Very clean mix. Very even. How'd you record the vocals? I just recently got an At40404, and can't get my setup right. My vocals suck. Yours are nice and clean. What preamp? Did you process them much?

Any way, good sounds. Nice mix.

Thank you very much for the responses.

Dogman- I set up the 4033 in my bedroom running directly into the 1820m. I have read that the pre's on this card sound very good and to me that is very true. In a studio where I recorded a quick demo a couple years ago my voice sounded dull. The 4033 and 1820m just seem to work for my voice. In the mix I boosted the high mids just a little bit for clarity and I used slight compression. Oh, yeah and I tried to be very conscious of varying the distance of my mouth from the mic through the song. During the verses I sang very close in and softly and backed away for the louder choruses.

Just kind've rambling here but one lesson I definitely learned on this first recording was mic placement. I sat right in front of the computer to record the acoustic guitar, with my headphones on. It was amazing hearing the difference just very slight angles would make on the tone. I actually set up the mic and then moved the guitar all around until I thought it sounded good. Ended up recording the song holding the guitar all funky but I was pretty happy with the results.

anyways enough rambling thank you very much for the responses I'm going to be doing this a lot in the future!!!!

Any other comments on the sound? How about the drums at the end? Do they work or do they suck?

Thanks in advance.
