hi there. my name is Dave, from London UK. I am in a band over here called ELIJAH GREW. anyways, intros over.
This is a song we play in the band, but i decided to record it acoustically. I think it came out pretty good.
I used a fostex MR-8 to record it. With a crappy peavey mic (with pop shield).
Also Mic'd up my Martin acoustic, and DI'd my Gibson acoustic. It's me on main vocals, with my wife singing on the chorus. This was all then mixed and mastered in Adobe Audition.
hope this works...any feedback is much appreciated. i love this site by the way. very informative and inspiring.

I like the tune. It's very catchy. The only thing that sticks out to me, are the main vocs. They seem a bit loud, and bright in the mix. They tend to drown out the guitar. Maybe bring them down a little, or compress them a bit more....maybe both. Other than that, sounds good. I would just like to hear the guitars a bit more.

thnx

thanks for the feedback. the vocals are what we are having to spend the most time on. it doesnt help having a crappy 30 buck microphone.
i am looking to get a shure sm58. that would be a good choice right.
glad ya like the song. i guess the vocals are upfront for a reason. i got this thing about having songs where ya can actually hear every word. but i will bear what you said in mind. thanks again...anyone else??
DAVE
p.s..i will post some more soon

This is very good, I love the vocals, both lead and harmony. Agree with Ed on levels. An SM58 would work nicely with your voice, i think.

One other thing - unless I did something stupid (which would be usual) I could only download your file, not stream it which is tedious and puts people off. If I'm right, can I suggest you look at using www.mixposure.com or www.nowhereradio.com - they both allow streaming and don't bother the user with pop ups etc.

(By the way - I think we have met at First Thursday? I have backed my wife Robbie singing there a few times.)

An SM58 might be a good one to have around, but if you're looking for a usable mic for vocals, you might look into a budget condenser microphone. A Studio Projects B1 (around $100 or less) would be one choice, or for a little higher budget, a CAD M177 or M179. I've owned the B1 before and found it pretty usable on vocals, but lately have been using my CAD and it's worked very well. There are many options in this price range, so I would check out the "Microphones" forum here to for more input on some mics you could look into.

Nice song by the way! It reminded me of an older style recording - good quality in general, but kind of a "nostalgic" feel (if that makes sense).

just being picky... tune the guitars.

Just grates a little.

my 2c... get a cheapish condenser mic if you want to really make a difference in recording quality. Studio Projects B1 - a huge inprovement.

Great song though and I too love the harmony. ;)

I thought the same - I wondered if it was just me :) I thought it's just the G string that's a bit flat in the guitar panned left.
