I'm helping my father set up a little recording / live rig to use with his band.
I need some kind of validation of my idea before we go spend money, so I figured this was the spot to ask if this will work.

I Plan on getting a Peavey PV 14 Usb mixer and a Moto mk3 ultralite. I was going to use the Insert as Direct out method to send 8 channels to the Ins on the Motu. From there I was going to use the Master Output on the Motu back into an Aux Channel on the Peavey. In theory This should work correct?

I was wondering should I use a Hosa doc-106 cable or a 1/4" Stereo Plug to 1/4" Mono Jack Adapter when plugging into the insert. I was also wondering would it be better to still have them channels that I'm routing to the motu to still go through the board dry without any of the motu DSP effects?

I'm going to use the MOTU to record these channels VIA Firewire, and have my two good mic's running directly into the MOTUs 192khz Mic Preamps figuring they are better than the PEAVEYs.

Any insight would be wonderful sorry for being such a noob. I'm very new to this and have just been researching on the net and need some kind of guidance.

Live must always take precedence over recording. Therefore, I would not rely on the MOTU for the live mix. That's what a mixer is for. You can use the inserts as sends, but do the first click thing so you don't cut off that channel.

I wouldn't be crazy about using effects on the MOTU for the show, but it might be worth a shot. I'm not real crazy about effects in a live show anyway. But do that on an aux send from the mixer. Do the mix on the mixer! When you suddenly get some hideous feedback, you don't want to have to scroll through menus on a 2-line display to fix it.

I would use the MOTU as a converter to feed recording on a PC (also not crazy about that, but I am paranoid). It is an open question whether the MOTU or Peavey preamps are better. I wouldn't worry too much about it, and just use the mixer.

And this is completely the wrong board for this thread . . .
