CyanJaguar wanted to know, so here it goes....

I had been using an SBLive Value for the past 2 years until a few days ago when I got my M-Audio Delta 1010.

Big difference.

At first I tried listening to some songs from various CDs. The first thing I noticed was the hi-end. The highs are more clear and detailed than the SBlive. I can hear reverb more clearly, and everything generally sounds more detailed when listening through the Delta. The second thing is the mids. The mids are very smooth, and in fact, at first I thought it sounded like the card was actually lacking in the midrange freqs.

But listening to my own material nearly put me in shock. I thought there was something wrong. I thought that I was listening to and old un-used mix that somehow didn't get deleted, or that some weird processing error occured when mixing down in cakewalk. I was really shocked. It sounded completely different. The reverb was much more present and the mids again seemed to sort of 'disappear' under the lack of harshness. After listening some more that night and the next day at different volumes I no longer thought that it was a computer error, but I did definately notice a big difference between the output of the two cards.

As for recording, I've only had time to lay down just a couple quick experimental tracks, but so far it seems that 'what goes in is what goes out.' The clarity and smoothness beat the SBLive by far.

Please take all this with a grain of salt. These are just my first impressions after having the card for a couple days. I have not conducted any scientific experiments to back up my opinions. I do not have a good monitoring system. I am sure that what I hear is far from the flat 'truth'. But, as Slackmaster and others have said in another thread, there is definately a big big difference.

Mr. Lip, after hearing some of the stuff you did with the Soundblaster, I cant wait to hear what you'll do with the Delta.....Wait has to be one of the best songs Ive heard around here....Definitely an example of "it's not the gear, its the person using it"....
