This is my very first recording attempt, short of the old four track.
I could use any help I can get, The name of the song is "the coffin song" You can find it here. www.mp3.com/freudian_slip1

I really need some opinions. Everyone says it is great but you know how that is. Please be objective.

thanks

Well laid out tune, not a bad mix! I did't care much for the "Muddy" sounding vocals, but maybe that is the effect you were going for??? Otherwise I liked it -

It always helps, especially on early recordings if you let us know what you're recording on / with.

This sounds great for a first recording though. Song reminds me of Hootie and the Blowfish.

Thanks RE:vocals

I have cleaned up the vocals some now. The problem is I am using a live mic. An EV n/d257b. It is bassy and I have a bassy voice. I need a good condensor mic. I also had a bit to much verb & delay going so I have trimmed them back and will repost it to the page.

I couldn't hear an acoustic at all...
Maybe I'm going deaf but that sounded like a clean electric to me.
Wait maybe I hear it after all?

I like the vocal sound actually.
It's different.

If only this was an evil goth song :)

No this is a pretty good song, the geetars whatever they are, sound a little thin.

I've been caught.

Jet-Rocker. You are right It is a clean PRS and I have grown fond of the Strat sound it makes on clean. I have a nice acoustic but I did not think to empoy it. I'm not so sure it would sound muck better than the prs though? It is a stage guitar. I would have to run it through an amp and mic it.

Hey I have no goth but I have a grinder song.

www.mp3.com/freudian_slip1 check out Swimming If you get the chance. Might be evil enough for you.???

Well, when you got a sleeping newborn baby in the house, you gotta listen to the music at low volume.... really low volume.

I think I got the Gordon Lightfoot part right, though! :D

Buck62

congrads on the newborn baby!!

I am soory I did not reply to you earlyer. I missed your post I think...???

YA no acoustic but I like the sound Of that guitar It is a pretty close second to an acuestick. It is the only guitar I have ever had that every setting on the pickups is good for something.

I'll take the gordon lightfoot part a complement. I am working on the mix though.

I have a bit of a classic singing style. I was trained in college and they teach you to mute your vowels and never raise your adams apple. It is strange but ot works. Good for the blues and jazz.

Got trained By a Big Fat Jazz guy.

It was strange, Verrry strange.

i'm very new as well. Technically, I thought the overall could be cleaner (alot of ambient noise) the vocals were a bit muddy in the verse. The song was mixed well, it was nice to listen to. I kinda got the goth thing in my head as well. It was reminisent of "Type O Negative" but, the message of the lyrics I(when I could understand them) was positive and wise. I liked the silkiness of the overall feel. Nice voice and I liked the build with the backup vocal a lot. Cool song. Good luck with future endevours.
