Hi,

http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?id=14086

I posted this in my thread in mixing but i suppose it belongs here now!

Its my attempt at recording/mixing my band. The genre is metal/hardcore/rock. Basically now im looking for advice on how it sounds generally. To me, its lacks a *fullness*

I'd say it sounds pretty good actually.

The kick drum sounds more like somebody is tapping their finger on a mic, and I think the bass guitar could be brought up a bit.

Thanks dude i'll have a look at those things tonight.

Very nice. (the recording AND the song). The snare sounded a bit dead in the break part with the snare standing out on it own. But I think you've got a good thing going here, keep it up.

(Nice combo of screamo and real singing, BTW).

Sounds pretty good. I might have liked the vocals in the chorus to come out a little bit, but it sounds good overall. As far as lacking fullness, I'm not missing anything. :) Great job!

Very 'eavy stuff. Guitar stuff sounds great. I think the drums could use some tweaking, they are too upfront in some spots and seem to not quite be as much in others. Like the little Zakk like squeaks in there.

Thanks guys. Still some work to do and the drums are giving me a hard time on this song! I'll have a lookie at the chorus vocals too.

I LIKE this tune a lot!!

Keep going and you will get everything sorted out.

OK, If your gonna play with the big boys (meaning bands with commercial success) EVERYTHING has to be locked up. The guitars and the double bass drums have to be perfectly in sync as an example. If your musicians can't pull it off then go through and manually line everything up. It's a pain but worth it. If you aren't already recording to a click then learn how. Your drummer may hate me for that.

There are all kinds of things to nit pic in every recording, so I leave that to you.

One suggestion to try. Double track all the guitars except the lead stuff and put the double tracked stuff in a softer pan, maybe 11 and 1 oclock. I think that will give you a little more homogenized, wall of sound effect that you may like for this kind of music.

I'm interested to hear more. I really enjoyed the song writing.

Mix (instrumental) sounds pretty well balanced, congrats.
Vocal is hidden (IMO), needs "presence" (gain on frequencies around 2/3 k take a look).

Listened to your music. Fantastic!! Surely adds credibility to your opinion and gives me reason to keep trying to get better. Thank you

Oh and thanks for the comment about the song writing, i'll make a post when the CD is released, most of the tracks will be available free online.

Cheers. It was done on a tight budget this time, we've only had this band going about 3 months and we just wanted to put something down, my drummer could play to a click but most of the other songs have tempo variation and we didn't have time to program a click. Guitars are already double tracked but they're panned hard i'll try a softer pan and see what that does for the mix, cheers.

Good song!

My only complaint is that I couldn't hear the bass guitar. Did you actually have one in the song? I think bringing that up a bit (or adding it if it wasn't there in the first place) would do a lot to fill out your tone.

Hmm. Yes theres a bass and its already up really loud, its EQ'd to compliment the guitars and kick rather than cut through the mix though.
