Hi there everyone!

just wandering if anyone would be so kind as to criticise my first drum recording.

haven't been on in a while, but i think my gear is in the signature,

i used a samson 7 kit with mxl 990 on hi hat(it was all i had)

thanks folks!

Nice and clean...

A little bit of reverb happening (or room?) cool

Think I can hear some gating but not sure....

Snare sounds snappy, cymbals crispy, toms sound "round" ....

Overall this sounds good to my guitar playing ears.

Would be cool to get this mixed with some music to see how they sit with music.

Good playing BTW....

cheers! some nice comments there!

haven't done much to it yet,,,,but i did use some gating on the toms to tighten them a bit,,,

the crash cymbal was a real let down (in real life), so i've probably over done the reverb on it to compensate,, but i'll maybe ease up a bit on it!

gona be getting bass laid down next weekend so i'll keep everyone up to date on it!

you say good playing? the guy who played on it is a legend!! he went to uni and has picked up his sticks in at least 8 months,, yet we managed to record 8 fresh tracks, to that standard in about 4/5 hours!!!

anyhow,,,,,any criticism or comments from anyone else would be much appreciated!!

cheers.

edit : for anyone whos mad keen,,,i'm uploading the 6 tracks at the mo,

they'll be available soon at

got bored today and did a wee vocal test,

the two bits i did are meant to be sorta unclear,,and really just a backing for a guitar line,

let me know if this sound is any good or not,

cheers.

Listened to the original file. Interesting... if not for the left/right panning of the toms I would have thought the kit was mic'd with a stereo pair from 6 ft away. Sounds good overall but the verb on the cymbals detracts I think.

stereo pair 6 feet away? isnt that a really bad thing??

have you any tips on how to make it sound better? cos i'm still working away at the drums,

cheers.

oh right,,,,excuse the ignorance,please,

in that case,,,thanks for your input,

i've since done another master ,but the mixing comp isnt on internet so i havent uploaded it yet,,,,

there is a lot less reverb on it,,and to be honest,,,the reverb was a (pathetic) attempt to cover up a very very weak crash cymbal.

anyhow,,,,,,i'll update the link sometime soon,,,,

and i have the bassist coming round tomorrow(hopefully) so i'll add him to the mix as well,,

anymore comments,,,,,,,? i'd be very grateful!

thanks!

heh-heh, wish I could help more but with drums I can tell you when I like them but I can't tell you how to get there. :)

Rami? Supercreep? NL5? Brandrum? Where are all the drum experts?

Tim
