Any suggestsions on volumes and settings on the mixer, and anything else would be greatly appreciated...

I have two overhead condensors, panned hard left and right. There are 4 toms, so i have a shure sm57 inbetween the top 2, and one inbetween the bottom 2. I also have a 57 on the snare, and a beta 52 on the kick.

The settings are a secondry matter.Make sure the kit sounds good/great if somthing is buzzing find it and kill it,if the floor tom goes boooorrriong and you dont like that sound do somthing about it.when the kit is sounding as cool as, then put up 2 o/hs and a kick and snare and record them with no f/x or eq and see how they sound move the mics around till you get a sound that sounds like the kit ,then put up the tom mics to fill out that kit sound moving them around to get your toms sounding good.If you can get that far and you have got a good sounding drum recording then you dont need too much else. But have a look around here for advice on compression and e.q. there is heaps of it.Oh and get the drummer to play the best he/she can good and solid this is very important all this good sound will be shot to shit with a crap performance.Good luck take a lot of time and be picky if you think somthing is sus then fix it .New skins and stix are a very good start, and tune them so it kills cats when they walk past.

Not bad - it sounds pretty solid. It sounds like you're getting some room sound in there, and that may be good or bad, depending on what you're going for. It's also very hard (for me, at least) to tell untill the rest of the music is there to see what you'll have to do with it in the mix.

In either case, I think you've got a good start. Assuming you're tracking it instead of pre-mixing it, you should have plenty to work with (IMO). I think it's good enough to track with.

you didn't say what kind of overheads that you where using. the kit sounds great. i wish that my first drum mix could have been that good( slingerland drums and a $29 radio shack mic!)

but know..."i've got to admit it's getting better,a little better all the time!" (it can't get any worse!)
