This is my first attempt mixing drums by recording on 4 tracks instead of 2... So now i can record the kick/snare and overheads seperatly...

Please give some opinions on the mixing/quality (not the actual playing, heh)

Kick- Nice sound. Thumpy in your chest type sound. Great sound!

Snare- You've got lots of ring on the snare. You need to put some dampening on it. It sounds really thin, maybe you have a phase issue.

Overheads- Capturing the sound well but it sounds thin and trebely like you have a high pass filter on or something. Where are you placing the overheads. I recommend using the method mentioned by Tubedude with the added snare mic.

Overall not too bad for a first attempt. It can only get better from now on.

and the real joy of it is: once you get these drums sounding GREAT, then you get to find out that the recording still sounds like crap with other instruments, because of shared frequency space!

ah, but i have said too much.

Drums is the hardest instrument to get sounding good especially for home recording studios. If you can get them to a decent quality level then you will have a good starting point to work from. The other instruments are easier too record.
