First big project with new gear

I am planning on upgrading my computer. Any suggestions regarding sound cards and recording software in addition to Mixcraft, which I used for this recording?

I currently use Acoustica Mixcraft but plan on adding FL Studio when I get a computer that can handle it. My Yamaha P85 is my controller.

2. Goals (what specificallyare you going to use this all for?)

Do you have an interface?

Yes: Then dont get ANY sound card, unless you have no choice, ie it's integrated on the mobo or something.. First thing you'll do is disable it in bios. Your interface IS a sound card as far as your OS is concerned.

No: Use some of that computer budget on an interface. Then refer to the 'Yes' section above.

Standard computer soundcards have the worst bottom-of-the-barrel mic pre's and DAC's - they literally cost under $1 to produce, you don't want to use them when you could spend $100 on a usb mixer, or whatever 2 channel interface, which likely comes with Cubase - which is my DAW of choice.
